He took over a program with ONE scholarship player. ONE

They haven't won a title in 30 years. It's a blueblood school, but most of their success is 20+ years ago.

They've reached the sweet 16 4 times in the past 22 seasons, Crean is responsible for 3 of those. They've won their conference 3 times in the past 23 seasons, Crean is responsible for 2 of those.

If we hire Crean, he's instantly the 3rd most accomplished coach in this league and Howland is at MSU where it might be difficult for him to be a real factor. Little doubt that Crean would have Mizzou a MAJOR player in the SEC once he got the ball rolling.

LSU has been to 4 Final Fours, 6 Elite Eights and will likely also be looking for a coach in this off-season. I'd put them above Mizzou as well. So I'd say you're right about high-mid average.

Except we're going to pay more than LSU is willing to pay. So I think we're a better job.

There's been talks both ways with Crean.

I kinda did, too. They opened the bank. Made me think it's really gonna be tough to get him out of Wichita.

Yeah. But he wouldn't be an awful hire. He's instantly a top 5 coach in this conference. That's a 9 step jump for us.

How is Crean more accomplished than Barnes, exactly?

Same amount of conference titles, same amount of final fours, same amount of sweet 16s in 12 fewer seasons.

also he gave pretty much the same quote when asked about leaving Wichita that year. which is probably about the same as the quotes he has given in other years

apparently he's really happy there. he's tight with the Koch bros who run Wichita. he lives in a house they own. he makes a ton. i'm sure he'll eventually leave, but I doubt it is this year for Missouri. and that's not really a slight against mizzou or anything

Probably take 5 mil, and then maybe he's still not leaving. I don't know if we'd do that, have to bump up all the other staffs if we did

fans know the SEC blows and they want as easy a path through the league as possible. They don't want a strong Mizzou because they know it adds another contender to the league.

I am in the opposite camp. I would kill for anything to make the conference season more interesting than watching water boil. I really, genuinely want Missouri to be good at basketball. So I guess I hope y'all get him.

Yeah most people want good competition.

and most people like to troll the shite out of other fan bases.

Marshall isn't happening...2011 was the year that could have been feasible. If IN does move on from Crean, I think Marshall could be in play there.

Crean does seem to be the early leader in the clubhouse, but that's all dependent on if IN decides to nudge him out. If they do, Crean to Mizzou could happen fairly quickly.

Reports keep coming out that Mizzou is targeting a Power Five type coach - the mid major guys would be down a level from what they're shooting for right now.

Cuonzo Martin is another favorite, but IL is projected as his landing spot.

Romar - God no, but there's a connection there due to the Porter's. I don't think there's anyway he'd get hired unless Mizzou missed on say their top 10 targets, but being Mizzou, this is probably what would happen.

The search has quietly been going on for awhile now and the search firm has apparently been in place for at least two weeks, so they should have a pretty good idea of who is really interested versus who isn't.

One other note, the leadership at Mizzou is pretty much all different from just a few months ago. The new system president is from UCONN, engineering background, lots of new curators, new AD in Jim Sterk...so lots of optimism finally.
