I know most schools go through rough times, but Mizzou only won about 40 games total from 1984 to 1997. If Mizzou's even just a .500 team for those years they'd be ahead of Arkansas and close to Florida.
Seriously, this is a lesson for everyone, don't ever hire folks into the administrative roles that hate sports, which is what happened to Mizzou. Mizzou wandered in the desert for close to two decades because of those decisions.

Pretty good picks for Mizzou, some others I'd mention:
1. Don Faurot - his overall record at Mizzou was middling, 101-79-10, but he did win multiple conference titles. He's on here because he's an absolute legend, and because he was the creator of the Split-T offense.
Bud Wilkinson learned the Split T from Faurot. The Split T is what all option offenses are based on, be it the wishbone veer, even to a degree spread offenses with RPO's. That's why he should be on the list.
2. This one's a reach, but Bill Snyder did in fact attend Mizzou for a year before transferring to William Jewell.

Luckily most of the class has already signed, although apparently Bryant was already getting heavily contacted.

We'd pretty much all had forgotten about this because no one here deemed it a big deal. Why?
1. The so called tutor was proven to have acted alone.
2. She had training about what was acceptable help and so forth.
3. She had claimed that her actions were sanctioned by Mizzou and encouraged - all proven to be false. Mizzou found that she did this on her own.
4. She attempted to extort money from many different places, attempted to "sell" her story, even had a go fund me site for some time. In short, she needed money and thought this would be an easy pay day. Didn't happen so she tried to burn down the school.
5. The players who cheated actually served suspensions - they were punished.
Most of this happened long enough that we pretty much thought it was over.
NCAA - we all know they're corrupt. Plausible deniability is key. No school should ever admit to anything because you'll get hammered if you do. As mentioned, NC can have fake classes. Michigan State covered up sexual misconduct for years, Baylor football and its rape culture, Beaker U is dirty as hell...nothing for those schools.
Not that any one would hire her, but the tutor in this case got a 10 year show cause for any possible job offers in the future. Dave Bliss, the former Baylor basketball coach? He got the same 10 year show cause for his run in with the NCAA.
Just in case you forgot, Dave Bliss was the Baylor basketball coach who attempted to cover up a murder that happened on his watch because he was afraid that his cheating would be uncovered as part of the investigation.
Enough venting I suppose...good news is Kelly Bryant has stated that he's staying.

As one poster mentioned, he's better than any of the returning QB's, and he offers a very good bridge between Robinson and/or Bazelak. It's a very good fit for Mizzou and Bryant.
He doesn't have to carry the offense. He'll have a very good RB rotation behind him. Rountree went for over 200 yards in the bowl game and 1200 + on the season. Albert O is coming back so Mizzou is set at TE, which should offer Bryant a good security blanket in the pass game.
Mizzou loses Hall so the deep threat is gone and will need to be replaced. Lots of young WR's played this year so hopefully they can take a step forward. The o-line should be solid.
Overall, Mizzou will be a run first team next season and they'll use that to set up the pass. If Bryant can stay away from TO's, I think Mizzou's offense will end up just fine. Expect a similar team next year to this years team. A team that can beat just about anyway, save Alabama or most likely Georgia, but it may also be a team that could stub their toe and drop one they shouldn't. Luckily the schedule sets up well for Mizzou. I'll call 9-3 right now.

True the East. Oh wait, the East had a winning record against the West this season.
I'm actually really dang happy with this class, and no, I don't care that they're #31 and that the class averages 3 stars. This class is a good mix of linemen and skill positions, including three QB's. The rankings don't take transfers into account, so Bryant and the QB from TCU aren't considered part of the class. This class is actually ranked a bit on the high side compared to how a typical Mizzou class ranks. We're usually in the 30-45 window.
Regarding the QB's, Mizzou may be set up for the next five years there:
2019 Bryant
2020 Shawn Robinson, the transfer from TCU
2021 Robinson
2022 Connor Bazelak - an incoming freshmen from Ohio
2023 Bazelak
Yes, I know things can play out much differently, but at least on paper, there's a ready to be seen progression at QB.

Dan Devine coached that game? Man that would have been something considering he had passed away quite a bit prior.

On Mizzou and the Big 10 - some of this is just rumor, but I've heard enough of this multiple times to believe that it's pretty accurate.
On the Bugeaters (NU) Vs. Mizzou - Old Wisconsin coach and AD Barry Alvarez and Tom Osborne are apparently really good friends. Alvarez really pushed hard for NU over Mizzou.
Part two of this: I've heard multiple things on this point. The Big 10 either offered Mizzou first, then NU, or offered both at the same time. Alvarez was key to NU getting the invite. I know Mizzou initially thought that they had no other Big 12 competition for the Big 10. Then the NU thing came up and most were pretty surprised.
Anyway, the invite, and I'm using that term pretty loosely here because conference realignment seems to be kind of like dating in jr. high, was for a "jr membership." The Big 10 wanted a five year period where Mizzou and NU would take reduced conference payments. They would have been full members, but receive substantially reduced revenue payments.
NU jumped at that while Mizzou declined. It's my understanding that Mizzou was actually preparing to send the Big 10 a counter offer when NU accepted the bid. Once that happened, the Big 10 decided to play hardball and state that they weren't accepting any new members at that time. They seemed to always believe that Mizzou would be there for the taking.
Thankfully Mizzou kept looking and found a fantastic home in the SEC. It's worked out fantastic for us.
On Bevo and OU to the Big 10: OU to the Big 10 won't ever happen. It's been mentioned on here, but the AAU standing is extremely important to the Big 10. Nebraska lost their standing shortly after joining and the Big 10 is sill pissed about that. Due to lack of AAU standing and the general thought that OU is not up to Big 10 academic standards, they won't get the invite.
Bevo - I've heard a lot that the Big 10 wants them. Much like they do ND. I could easily see Bevo becoming a member. I can also see Bevo trying to strong arm the Big 10 into taking OU, but the Big 10 won't give a damn. I'd say the Big 10 and SEC are the only conferences that won't bow down to Bevo. As much as I'd like to them seem shrivel up and become a DIII school, I'd say the Beakers are the most likely Big 12 school to get an invite, outside of Bevo.

Mizzou has been shifting to a run first first team for some time now. They'll still run it out of the spread, if you want to call it that, but it's a more run heavy version. Lot's of RPO's in it. Lock had those those options as well, but he typically passed off of them, rarely running.
Mizzou was 7th in the SEC in rush yards per game and tied with LSU for 2cd in total rush attempts. They were 8th in rush yards per attempt at 4.63.
I actually think Bryant will fit in very well. No, he won't throw the deep ball as well as Lock, there's only about five QB's who can, but he actually had a better completion percentage.

From Mizzou's perspective:
Lock was a starter for pretty much the last 3.5 years and the current guys on the roster after him seem to be more depth guys than guys that can step in and start.
Mizzou signed Lindsey Scott Jr. last year and gave him the #2 job in spring, with the hope that he could step in and be ready for 2019. Didn't happen. He's slid down the depth chart all the way to #4.
Taylor Powell, from Fayetteville, AR is the #2. He'd be a redshirt sophomore next year. He's done OK in mopup duty, but they just don't see him as a full time starter. He's got two high school teammates, who have both played a fair amount, on the team. Despite that, I'd guess he'd transfer to a directional school if Mizzou lands Bryant.
Micah Wilson is a redshirt sophomore right now. He's very athletic and some say he's the fastest kid on the team. Apparently his arm is an issue. If he were to get the nod, Mizzou would be heavy on the run & only pass off that. His dad played at Mizzou. He's also worked out some at WR.
They've got a kid from Ohio, who they're really high on, committed for next year. The idea would be to land Bryant, or another grad transfer, and have him play for a year before handing off to the incoming freshmen.
That's why Mizzou wants Bryant, because there's a huge hole at QB for Mizzou next year without him. I'm not saying he'd be a world beater or anything, but he'd clearly be the #1 guy. It's also a good fit for him. Mizzou returns all their RB's, their best TE's, all the receivers except Hall, and even 3 of 5 starters on the o-line. Mizzou's offense should be pretty solid next year if they can get Bryant.

Liberty is one of the three bowls Mizzou put in for. It's not the SEC's fault. Plus, It's a good bowl that we have history with, and it's only five hours from Columbia. All positives. The only issue is the who we're playing, yet another freaking Bevo 10 team, but that is who teh Liberty Bowl is tied to.
From what I'm hearing already, there will be a lot of Mizzou fans there, including myself and two - five others.

That's about where we always are, in that 25-40 range, so how's it feel to continually get your arse kicked by a group of low level recruits? One thing I've learned over the years, the recruiting rankings aren't exactly the perfect science everyone wants to believe.

Posted by AaronB4Mizzou on 11/22/18 at 11:17 am
That actually kind of sums up why they're so pissed to this day at Mizzou: We were there to fill out the conference, sit at the kid's table, and never, ever question what the adults were doing. We were supposed to be grateful for whatever table scraps they threw our way.
Then, Mizzou stunned the crap out of them when we said screw you guys. Even though there were grumblings, I really don't think they believed Mizzou would ever actually leave or even have the option to.
Yes, I know you guys in the SEC rip the hell out of us, and that's fine, but Mizzou is treated as an equal. Something that was never done in the Big 12.
Also notice how they rarely mention the Bugeaters, Colorado, and even A&M - the hate is pretty much all directed at Mizzou. Which is also funny, because I hear a lot of the old Big 8 schools say to me that they wished Mizzou was back.
Happy Thanksgiving guys!

Expansion: I'm going to do this a bit on how I recall things while using Gabe's article for clarification. Please note, this will be long.
Bevo, OU, the beakers...they always portrayed Mizzou as the school that started it all. They liked to act, and still do, like the Big 12 was a happy little conference where everyone got along great and sang Kumbaya My Lord together after each and every event.
There was discord from the formation of the Big 12, but I didn't realize that until many years later. As a Mizzou guy, I realize my take on this will differ from the A&M guys, but here's a nutshell of what we thought the Big 12 was. Mizzou, and the other old Big 8 schools were under the impression that the Big 8 was adding four of the old Southwest schools, Bevo, A&M, Tech, and Baylor, albeit Baylor got in only because TX governor Ann Richards was a Baylor grad who pushed for them. That's what we were told. The four TX schools knew correctly that the Big 12 was actually a new conference, not the Big 8 adding four schools. Not the biggest deal, but it shows where we're going...
Everything in he Big 8 was based in Kansas City. League offices, basketball tourney's, etc. Well the 1st WTF moment came when the league offices moved to TX from KC. Then, and this is the one that shocked everyone, they decided to rotate the basketball tourney. That pissed a lot of people off. The Bugeaters (Nebraska) went along with much of this and often sided with the southern schools, because they thought they were being set up as the Bevo in the north. Tom Osborne thought wrong.
Ok, enough of that junk. Colorado never seemed to be happy in the Big 8/12. They were always looking west and it was well known that they wanted to be in the PAC. So, it came as little surprise when they bolted once they finally had their chance.
Mizzou administrators desired the Big 10. That thought had existed since the late 80's/earlyl 90's. It's my understanding that when the Big 10 added Penn State, that Mizzou was told your next if ND declines. They declined, but the offer never came.
So, when the expansion talk was going on, Mizzou was looking at the Big 10 again. Their commish had said they were expanding, so it made sense. The MO governor stated how Mizzou should look at the Big 10 and leave the Big 12. That's the comment that Bevo and everyone latched onto when they claim Mizzou started all the conference realignment talk. Note it wasn't actually anyone associated with the school, it was the governor.
Well, no one trusted Bevo, and it turns out we were right since they were negotiating with the PAC. While that was going on Mizzou did in fact have discussions with the Big 10 and supposedly the offer that the Bugeaters got was actually given to Mizzou as well. Mizzou balked at it because the offer required that Mizzou would be a junior member and not a full member of the Big 10 for five years. Mizzou was in the process of coming back with another offer when the Bugeaters decided to jump on it. That left Mizzou in the cold for the time being.
That's when panic kicked in, because the pessimists believed Mizzou was about ready to get left in the dust. I think most Mizzou fans really believed that Bevo, OU, OSU, Tech, and A&M were PAC bound, which would have left Mizzou, the beakers, K-State, ISU, and Baylor without a home. Things got frickin nuts. The beakers, I think with Mizzou's knowledge, were trying to broker a deal that would get them into the Big East. That wouldn't have been terrible. Football would have sucked, but basketball would have been really good. Everything else - terrible.
I saw that as the worst case scenario. The chicken littles were convinced we'd end up in the WAC. I'm on PowerMizzou so this is where this info comes from. I remember a poster, and it wasn't Gabe from what I recall, just kind of floating what about the SEC? I really don't think most of us had even considered that for some reason. Probably since all the focus had been on the Big 10.
I was onboard pretty quickly and I think throughout the summer the movement grew. By the fall, there was a significant push from the people for the SEC. Especially when it was realized that A&M was also making that push. So, once that happened we were all pretty much elated.
As for the rest - as mentioned by others, OU is tied to OSU. It would be real messy if they split. Neither is getting into the Big 10 anytime soon because they do went good academic schools. If OU can ever get away from OSU, I actually see them ending up in the SEC. Bevo? I've actually heard Big 10 for them, but who knows with that crowd. I've heard the beakers to the Big 10 as well. The others? I think they get left out of the Power 5. I think they'd end up in that new version of the Mountain West, something like KSU, ISU, OSU, Colorado State, Air Force, Boise State, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, and maybe New Mexico. Just guessing.
Anyway, there's a lot of rambling there and it's long and not proofread, so it may make little sense. Glad as can be to be in the SEC!!!!

Lot's of thoughts:
First off, Jason Sutherland. He was a guard from about '94-'98 for Mizzou. Came from either North or South Dakota. Anyway, he was hated by other schools because he played basketball like he was playing safety on a football field. He had no hesitation in committing a hard foul. If there was a loose ball, he would dive headfirst into the pile kind of like a fighting for a fumble. A bit like Marshall from Ole Miss. He'd taunt the crowd, etc. Great on your team, but if you played against him you probably hoped he'd blow a knee out. Dude's in his 40's and still plays that way.
Now onto the expansion talk...

Those idiots seem pretty sure that Les will be the hire. It's the same program that ran off their best coach in the last 30 years because he was too mean.
BTW, you misspelled kansas. It's always lower case, or "beakers" would also be an acceptable way to describe them.

I kept telling my boys, don't celebrate until the clock is on zero, and even then, wait a minute or so since that didn't matter against Kentucky.
Thank God because I don't think I'd ever been so down on Mizzou football in my life, and that includes the wilderness years of the 80's and most of the 90's.
On Dooley - to me he's actually been a pleasant surprise. I think he's done a pretty good job overall with a few exceptions. Against KY - I think he was ordered to be super conservative in the 2cd half so I won't throw him under the bus for that.

Here's the brewery links:
Burr Oak Brewing Company
Logboat Brewing Co.
I tend to like Logboat's a bit better, but both are pretty dang good. A good variety to pick from from both of them.
The scooters are out in force, have fun scooter tipping!
