You were right actually. I edited. Auburn was #14 and I thought they were 13. A lot of people forget about Oklahoma when making these lists.

It's cool. I honestly had to go back and double check.

Alabama opened the 2017 season against #3 Florida State.

Florida State finished the year at 7-6.

That wasn't a Top 10 win and neither was LSU's 2019 game against a Texas team that finished 8-5.

I watched the Bama-tOSU NCG again Saturday morning and lost count how many times the word historic was used to describe Bama’s offense. Seems pretty clear cut to me which team was the best of all time...your 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide.

The injury report would suggest otherwise. They went from a very good starting QB to a 6'5" 190 lbs freshman.

Before Francois’s injury in the opening game, the Noles trailed Alabama only 10-7 late in the third quarter. Nothing I saw would suggest that FSU was doing it with smoke and mirrors. BAMA's defense stopped believing in the 2018 vs Clemson game. They were just about to stop believing vs Georgia in the first half in 2017. Physical and mental, you can't separate the two on a football team.

Bluntly, if FSU stays healthy and wins the BAMA game we aren't having a conversation about the #3 ranked team falling completely out of the top 25. BAMA most certainly beat the #3 team in the nation.

Period. End of story.

For other programs that want to cry and whine and make excuses - LSU lost at least 2 defensive starters and 2 quality contributors for the year to injuries in 2019;
and one of their starting receivers missed half the year
to an injury in 2019. We also had a starting RB and offensive linemen and TE lose significant time due to injuries.

Every team has injuries. But 2019 LSU overcame those and STILL scored 700 points, threw for 60 TDs and trailed in the 4th quarter ONCE all year - against a schedule that included the preseason # 1,2,3 and 4 teams, 7 Top Ten teams, and Top 4 Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson in consecutive weeks.

It was a phenomenal offense, but LSU's offense actually averaged slightly more points per game.

We had a lot of suspensions on the O-line. Starting left tackle missed 6 games. His backup missed a game or two I can't remember which one. The starting LG missed basically the whole season to suspension. He came back late but wasn't in football shape and didn't play much.

I always get a big kick out of the people on here that would say that only LSU fans were saying that stuff and that it was just a normal championship season.

But, all of those are from before Bama's 2020 season was even played.

What?

Alabama averaged 48.5 points in 2020 and LSU averaged 47.2 points in 2019.

2020 Points Per Game

2019 Points Per Game

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but in 1961, Alabama averaged giving up only 2.3 points per game. 25 points, only 3 TDs, and 6 shutouts in 11 games. That's pretty damn impressive in any era.

Someone did the top 3 a while back I believe and it was overwhelmingly in LSU's favor. But, you have to be careful on here with the small sample sizes because people manipulate things to make their arguments better.

Alabama only played P5 teams, and 11 of those games were SEC. So Alabama didn't get the benefit of FCS and G5 teams to pad stats on.

Just the benefit of a 3 WEEK BYE in November...

While I’m here:
quote:

A1abana’s brutal 2020 schedule:
(3-7) Arkansas
(3-7) Tennessee
(4-7) Mississippi State
(4-6) Kentucky
(5-5) Missouri
(5-5) LSU
(5-5) Ole Miss
(6-5) Auburn
(7-1) Ohio State
(8-4) Florida

That’s 77% of the gauntlet - a combined 50-52

The other 23% was equally BRUTAL.

(8-2) UGAy w/ future accountant Stedman Bennett
(9-1) A&N w/ future 7th rounder Keller Mond
(10-2) Notre Dame w/ future librarian Ethan Books

*Note: those three teams were outscored by 102 points in their 5 combined losses (-20.4 ppg)

“We just won the ‘COVID Semi-National Championship’ - quick, how does that stack up to LSU!”

Neb 95 and it wasn't close. The backups for Nebraska 95 is probably 2nd. The way they stacked talent was why we have many of our rules today.
