I hate to pop your bubble but Billy Cannon is from Mississippi. Also you added Skip Bertman who is from Michigan and played at Miami. The thread title asks for Greatest athletes from your state, not coaches like Eddie Robinson etc.

You’re close. Sleepy played at Huss and Worrhy at Ashbrook.

Buzz was two hours west in Asheville. Totally not the same conference.

Clemens was in junior high when he moved to Houston. Clyde was born in NO, but his entire childhood was Houston. Shaq was born in NJ, but grew up overseas, and moved to Texas at 15. What state has more right to claim him than Texas?

You are right about the schools. It may have been in a big Christmas tournament that Freedom High put on. I just remember him saying those three all played each other in high school. He worked at Freedom so that may have been it.
