You should root for the academy team of the branch you serve, it’s not exactly hard to do.

I have notice officers care more about it then enlisted. Do we support them sure but really don't keep up with it. However, since its our service yes we like them. I figure it has more to do with that they are just not big programs and they our not typically successful on the national landscape of college football. If they were perhaps like a UCF, Boise State, and TCU. Perhaps I would care more. Do I support them and like them, sure but I don't necessarily follow them.

As stated, Army used to be in Conference USA in the late 90s and early 2000s. However, they left after feeling it wasn't conducive to growing the program.
The conference schedule did not allow them the flexibility they wanted in scheduling. So, they decided it was more advantageous to return to being independent and or seek acceptance to a better conference.
I think they absolutely would accept and aac bid, if they were offered. Or even a Western Athletic Conference bid.
But, if you look at Navy now, they are starting to feel the effects of playing a rather good AAC conference. It is much harder to get Bowl eligible when you can't cherry-pick a few games each year to help you get there.
The service academies will rarely, if ever, get enough talent to truly compete at the FBS level on a regular basis . Plus, as we have seen, there is some advantage for an option offense to not play another team regularly . It allows them to sneak up on that team and keep the game closer than it probably would be if they played every year.
In all of their other sports they are part of the Patriot League conference and have been since the early 90s.

I root for all of the service academies.
Because of my Army background, I pull for West Point over the Naval and AF academies when they play each other. I normally want AF & Navy to beat everyone except for a handful of teams.

I do cheer for Navy, but in a very casual manner. Was an enlisted Marine.

Army should be the 16th member of the ACC.
The reason they left CUSA was because they were near the bottom every year.

I root for army if they are on TV. All the men in my family served in the navy so there is mostly good spirited fun amongst us.

I'm a Marine vet (grunt) and the only football we ever played in my branch was intramural and too violent for POGs (we called it "Combatball"), so nah I don't care about Army or Navy games and I don't know any grunts that do, but I can only speak for grunts.

I was an Air Force pilot. I was conflicted when it came to Academy games. There were some Academy guys that I was stationed with that were great guys.. There were quite a few jerks, too.
For the most part I couldn't care less about their games, but was supportive around the good guys. I reveled in the Academy's losses around the a holes. (unless they outranked me of course....I'm an Ag, but not stupid.)

This is a weird post, and I don’t believe one word of it..
There is a class of people who have this weird lack of situational awareness who always seem to tell these heroic stories of themselves that are somewhat rooted in reality but they like to just insert a bit of embellishment on top of it.
I had this friend growing up who always argued backwards -- my little phrase for when this particular type of person uses a little fantasy. Sometimes I'm sure there was a hint of an argument or conversation like this, but at the end you can tell they just wrap it up with a routing of their foe.
It's the 'then everyone clapped' type of thing that you know is fake just by how the story is written. Truly bizarre.
