No one is in town, school is out and most students went home before the weekend.

Baseball has never been a big draw at UF for some reason. We get 2500 to show up to watch lacrosse, or 10,000 for gymnastics, but outside of games against FSU and Miami (and postseason games) we don't sellout baseball.

Beat me to it. Gainesville becomes a ghost town when school is out. Traffic free roads, desolate parking lots, empty bars, etc. For many students, the drive to Gainesville from their hometown is more than 2-3 hours away. For me it was about 2 1/2. Please keep that in mind before painting the entire fanbase with your bitter brush.

I was there, don't know what you are talking about.

But whatever makes you feel better about being a Hog fan.

I think that if ESPN shoved baseball down everyones throat like they do for WCBB, baseball could flourish.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, why aren't they doing it, then?

Not all of ESPNs decisions appear to have good reasoning behind it. Why they show poker? Who the hell knows.

Florida fans have one love: Football.

Everything else is secondary.

Well, it's obviously like that at Alabama, but we still manage to average close to 4,500 at baseball games (good for 8th in the country).

There were a lot more people at the Arkansas series. People were leaving town this weekend after graduation.

But I mean really, who cares? LSU has the best attendance of all time but they still got swept by UF.

I think the confusion comes from the fact FL has a very good team but the fans don't care enough to support them. I don't understand it myself. How can a FL fan not want to see that team play?

You sure about that? On TV it looked pretty sparse for the Saturday game...like 1500ish.

The Arkansas game also fell during finals week. A lot of people had already left town at that point. Once the students leave Gainesville, the place is dead.

The team used to draw pretty well, especially during the 2005 run. Not sure what is going on now.

It's not like UF fans won't come out, 2500 show up to watch lacrosse.

Interesting how the #6 ranked team in America draws barely half their stadium's capacity- on a saturday, no less- and against defending champions, no less.
This has pissed me off for years! I do not like it one bit and to the Gator fan that stated we only like football...GFY.

It's not that Gator fans don't like their team, it's that they don't like baseball in general. That doesn't make them bad fans.

Now...

When things are getting bad, bring up attendance.

When you live on a peninsula 75% surrounded by beaches that are crawling with fine arse on a weekend, why would you skip out on that in lieu of an amateur baseball game, especially when you've got the entire summer to see the two major league teams on said peninsula?

We usually get a couple thousand at each baseball game. That being said, for the LSU series finals were going on, classes were over, and I would have been there if I wasn't walking for graduationon Saturday!

Nobody in Florida gives a shite about baseball. See Marlins and Rays attendance in recent years.
