I recently finished a long road trip that took me through SEC country. Gainesville, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, BR, Norman, Austin, and College Station, and plenty of places in between. My lady friend (no pics) has never traveled much, and she was astonished at how nice the folks were. It didn’t matter if it was at a Waffle House a museum or a ballpark. We checked out the campuses, most of which I have already visited. Norman was new for me, and I must say that the Sooners have a nice pad up there.
I know our neck of the woods gets shite on, and the ever-changing landscape of college athletics has tested the bonds a bit, but a tip of the cap to my SEC brothers. Stay good.

As far as football season goes, of course. I’ve never had a bad encounter at an away stadium. It’s just good to be reminded of that from time to time.

This. The internet is hostile as hell compared to normal life. Except Miami fans...they still think you can't be a canes fan without at least 1 felony charged to your name.

The vast majority of people I have heard bad stories when they were a visiting fan, they are the type of person that talks shite and likely invites the bad experience. A-holes are magnets to each other. If you a a visiting fan and are a good person with a good group, you will usually not run into an issue.

That popular German soccer travel guy Freddy also likes the South. He traveled all over the US in the past month even to Canada and had this to say a few days ago:

The hospitality here is just something else. Everyone knows everyone, and it feels like people are living one big shared life. Someone is always stopping by, doors are always open, and everyone is welcome.
One guy told us he hasn’t locked his house in 23 years. When we were out on the lake, we met some people who immediately invited us to their lake house to hang out. They offered us drinks, chicken wings, and made us feel completely at home. It’s a kind of hospitality I’ve never experienced before.
When we got back to the dock late that night, one of the guys on the boat said something that really stuck with me:
“You don’t have to live in some big, exciting city. What matters is the people who live there. That’s what makes you happy. I’ve lived in many places around the world, but nothing comes close to Ocoee, Tennessee. And you know the best part about living here? We’re going to do the exact same thing again tomorrow.”
