that the best team doesn't always win.

This is the moment that cost Mississippi State a national championship.

The best college team these eyes ever witnessed was the 1985 Mississippi State team. Oh. My. God. Those Bulldogs had four future Major League stars: Jeff Brantley, Will Clark, Rafael Palmeiro and Bobby Thigpen. They had several other really terrific college players. Their one-two pitching starters, Brantley and Gene Morgan, were a combined 32-4 that season. You read right: thirty-two victories, four defeats. And Thigpen, who would go on to set a Major League saves record, was the closer at the back end of the bullpen.

Baseball is a fickle sport. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day. Sometimes a star pitch just doesn’t have it. Sometimes a lesser pitcher just has great stuff that day. Sometimes a team is just in a slump all at once. Crazy sport.

If tech cant win I guess I'm in on fsu. I remember watching back in the eighties a guy named richie or something like that. Pitcher I think that threw a thousand pitches.(exaggerated)May be off on the name.

Back in the days of rolled up sleeves and Easton bats with a lot of pop.

Richie Lewis?

Short little guy but a hell of a pitcher. Zac Kristofak for Georgia reminds me a lot of him

Talk about revisionist history.

That team was good. Not going to lie.

But wasn't anywhere near some of the best teams that been to Omaha.

Texas and Miami were by far the best teams in 1985

I don't think you understand the concept of a tourney.

Miami was really good that year but Texas was maybe the 4th best team in the CWS behind Miami, MSU, and Arkansas.

Arkansas was 4-1 vs. Texas that year with the 1 loss coming in the semi's in an 7-8 heartbreaker. I still cant stand that little punk-arse Billy Bates

Completely agree. We got a bad break and lost to TX in 10 innings. Otherwise I think we would have taken Miami in the finals.

Arkansas was decent but they didn't even win the SWC in 1985.

They won the tournament but not the conference.

Think Greg Swindell was on the 1985 team.
Probably one of the best pitchers ever in college baseball history.
That 85 team had a lot of arms. May have been better than Texas in 83 but like I said Miami was good that year.
Beat Texas in two straight to win the CWS.

But Arkansas had a decent team that year.
Had a few future major Leaguers.

Bates was a baseball player.
Helped him play in the majors for a little.

Those scrappers like that win baseball games.

Swindell was down right nasty.
Don't know what happened with Cleveland.
He did have a decent MLB career but not as great as his talent.
