From a pure economics standpoint, how is it difficult to understand that a fanbase who ~80% of its alumni base lives 7 hours or more away from the game will not be evenly represented say, compared to Alabama or Auburn.
You have to by default spend about $500 extra minimum, assuming a mediocre hotel at that. If you drive, you have to factor in the cost of that time; If you fly, the cost of that flight.
Further, you have about two weeks' notice to make this decision. This isn't a Texas, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin etc. where you have a year to plan.
The fact that any fanbase would have 20k in the stadium under those circumstances is a testament to the power of college football and fandom.

The price of the ticket to get in isnt the problem, the money is spent making the trip , hotel, accomodations, food n drink. $190 wont get you a decent hotel there for 1 night

I was there for the SECCG last season and there were lots of empty seats. Too easy to watch it on a great 50”+ tv and lots cheaper. Supply/demand. I have a feeling that lots of locals will be buying up cheaper tix at the last min this year. I might.

My cheap arse will be watching it live from CBS like the others that value money.

I paid I think 240 each ticket for Florida-Arky in 06, I remember Florida-Bama in 09 being expensive as shite can't remember what I paid but it was easily over 400 bucks.

It has been that way since 1992.
The watching it from home part, not the CBS part.

It costs exactly $0 to watch Auburn in the SECCG.

I do think we are going to see diminished value in the future, but I'm not sure that's a reason here.
Most LSU fans I know are waiting/saving $ for the playoff trip. They're probably in regardless of the outcome of the SEC Champ game.

I think it’s safe to say this season surprised everybody in BR. Lots of weddings and Christmas parties started getting scheduled on this weekend over the years.

I think it’s more about LSU fans are expecting to win and being the #2 seed and a trip to Phoenix. I would bet that LSU will have 2x as many fans in pheonix than in Atlanta for sec champ game!
This seems reasonable.
I was j/k about “poor”, but the price pressure is not there this year.
Peak was probably Alabama Florida 2008 and 2009.
AU 2010 was solid as was AU-UGA 2017.
I just thought LSU not being there for 8 years would drive prices through the roof.
If Texas A&M ever wins the west, I wonder what price I could get for 4 tickets?

I’m glad somebody was rich enough to buy my tickets at more than double face.
