Awful news. Pickens and him are a great one-two punch for the Dawgs LINK

I really hate to hear when this happens to these kids, especially before the season even starts.

Was thinking the same thing, remember that happening in the game, always looks bad and you know what it is when they're holding that knee

Its so crazy to me that this happens as often as it does in practices going 1/2-3/4 speed. The video of the injury that tore Gerald Mccoys Achilles was literally him just standing up and taking a step backwards then collapsing. I just cant believe some kind of brace, modified cleats or something havent been able to slow it down. It seems like it happens more than ever.

Muscle twitch is stronger than the ligaments and tendons.

I dont know a lot of exercises or supplements to strengthen ligaments like we have for the muscle groups.

A lot of research being done on why this is, and it seems to trace back to modern strength and conditioning. Basically, modern high level athletes have stronger leg muscles than their ligaments were designed to connect.

Modern pro athlete makes a sudden reactive cut (usually one they weren’t expecting or bracing to make), and their ACL is shredded by the firing of their own hamstring. That’s my recollection of the research I read, anyway.

Yep...And it seems a few years back in back to back years UT lost a couple a players in practice to achilles tendon tears.

Hate it for Blaylock...Wish him a speedy recovery

You can't really do much except make the muscles around the ligaments stronger to give better protection against injury. Although they may have made some improvements that I don't know about.

#2 rated freshman WR (behind Pickens) last season per PFF. Hopefully he's able to recover and have the career that was panning out

I think you are half correct.

The muscle groups dont protect the ligament. But they can provide the knee structural support with or without the ligament.

Charles Mann played an entire season on a torn ACL. Aaron Murray finished a scoring drive on one.

People do things all the time on torn ACLs before their scheduled surgery date.
