while in the SEC. From 1933-1963, while GT was an SEC member team, they absolutely dominated. Thank God they left the SEC.

Georgia has a winning record against them from '33-'63, but only by a 3 game margin.

Every single other team in the SEC, at the same time as GT, had a losing record against them in this time span, except for Mississippi State, who didn't play them.

Sewanee has an overall winning record against GT but, not during the two seasons they played while both were in the SEC before Sewanee left in '40.

Whenever you see GT struggling today, just be happy that they aren't still in the SEC and don't have the resources the SEC developed shortly after they left.

At one time, the Whig party was one of the dominant political parties in the U.S.

Something positive about Arkansas - our former football coach and AD, Frank Broyles played QB for the Yellow Jackets from 1944-1946 and lettered in baseball and basketball as well.

As an aside, doesn't the Bama fight song reference "send the Yellow Jackets to a Watery Grave"? (I prefer the Shirley Q. Liquor version)

The only current SEC schools that would have consistently dominated GT since ~2000 are UGA, Alabama, and LSU. All the others would have dropped 8-10 games in that time, at best. This is true even with GT’s currently weakened state.

Tech was in the SEC for 31 years.
Tech has 5 SEC Championships.
That’s more than:

Kentucky
Miss State
Vandy
Arkansas (31 years in SEC)
South Carolina (31 years in SEC)
Missouri (only in conference 11 years)
Texas A&M (only in conference 11 years)

At the time they left the conference it was more than every SEC team except Bama, UT, and OM.

Bobby Ross, George O’Leary & Paul Johnson were all excellent coaches at Tech and would’ve given any SEC team that wasn’t very/very good hell during their tenures.

Part of Georgia Tech not being in the SEC can be traced back to bad blood between Alabama and Georgia Tech, or more specifically between Pepper Rodgers and Bear Bryant. Rodgers implied Bama cheated getting players, and accused Alabama players of taking cheap shots at the Tech players. As well the Atlanta sportswriter Dave Kindred wrote articles about how shady Alabama football was, some felt this effort was coordinated with Ga Tech.

When the opportunity came up for Ga Tech to leave the SEC both themselves and Alabama were happy to have the Yellowjackets get out of the SEC.

I want Geo Tech back in the SEC. Georgia is too big not to have some in-state competition.

Its official.....this is the dumbest, most ridiculous, irrelevant thread that has ever been started by ANYBODY on this forum.
For the last 2 decades, GT has been nothing but a red-headed step-child to their lord and master UGA and we have prison-raped them every freakun season and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

You sir (or madam) are the most mentally impaired poster that has ever signed into this forum. You are lower than the feces that came from the bacteria that ate pond scum. I will not waste finger power giving you a downvote and may God have mercy on your soul.

I hate it that Bobby Dodd pulled us out, so many great rivalries lost- AU, Bama and UT especially

We still play every year. This is dumb. If you want your team to play Georgia tech, tell your AD to schedule a game(s) against them out of conference. Just like UGA does. Just like UF does with FSU. Just like UK does with Lville. Just like USC does with Clemson. Pick up the phone and make a deal.

This year, UGA plays both Clemson and GT out of conference.
It's ok to schedule more than one decent team out of conference.

You can do it! You just have to want to.

You don't need GT back in the SEC just so you can play them again. That is absurd.

They left for a couple reasons, but the fact is the people they graduate today could give two shites about sports.
Not in their Blood as it once was.

They certainly have the money, if they ever wanna get serious again though.

The watery grave is definitely in Bama's fight song. Tech had a big time rivalry with Bama. Auburn also had a big rivalry with Tech. During the week before Auburn and Tech would play, Auburn had a wreck Tech parade that was held in down town Auburn. Tech and LSU was a big rival game that was beginning to take shape. Many Tech fans still believe it was a mistake to leave the SEC. At least Tech landed in a so so conference. Tulane left two years after Tech did. Imagine if Tulane had stayed, their athletic program would be a lot different than it is today. Tulane left the SEC and it has been down sizing their athletics program ever since. I think that when Tulane played at home their stadium was the largest in the SEC. Back in the old days, Tulane stadium was bigger than Tiger stadium. I just think that Tulane leaving the SEC killed their athletic program. Tulane now has a big high school stadium where it plays its home games.

Have fond memories of watching GT on ABC in the 1990's with Joe Hamilton as QB. They had some thrillers back then.
