The last of the gentlemen coaches was born March 2, 1935.

I hope he has many more. He is a good and decent man both on and off the field.

God I thought he was older than that. Did he retire when he was like 55??

Next to Bryant, he was my favorite coach.

That is 100% accurate!

A little story about Coach Stallings - as many on here know my grandfather played football and basketball for the Tide in the 1930s. It was the off-season, and my uncle brought my grandfather to campus so they could tour the Bryant Museum. It was the off-season and Coach Stallings was the head coach of Alabama at the time. I guess on a whim they stopped by the football offices and it just so happened that coach Stallings was in his office that day. He invited my uncle and grandfather into his office, they sat down and chatted for a good hour. I always thought that was a real class move by Coach Stallings - plus it meant a lot to my Grandfather but he would take the time out of his schedule to meet with a former player.

Happy Birthday Coach!

I love that guy.

I’ve told my story about him enough times on this board.

He’s a genuine great person.

Even as an AU fan I always thought well of Coach Stallings. I recall when he was head coach of the NFL Cardinals and pulled the team off the field and sent them to the locker room when he believed his team was not treated fairly, gutsy move.

Call me old and whatever but that picture from above of coach Stallings and John Mark walking across the Alabama end zone makes me tear up a touch. Just a perfect picture, it says so much more than a thousand words because can just feel the paternal love and joy. I'm fortunate to be a Bama fan and having Bryant and Saban coaching, and great men as well but my favorite is still Coach Stallings

I love how we shared the same coaching legends with bama

But they could never win big at A&M, only at bama

I watched him take the secondary away from Bill Oliver once during a spring practice session.

He had his short sleeve white oxford dress shirt on while he did it.

I'm probably blowing it out of proportion a little, but he certainly came in and took over for about 5 minutes, and Oliver just stood there and watched as Stallings coached up his DB's.

One would think that a superfan like paperwasp would have already created a gif of George Teague's strip

alas, the gif does not exist

shame on you Tide Nation

Same person that down votes everything.

There a few here that would down vote a cure for childhood cancer.

Classy post OP.

It is a travesty how Stallings was treated by Andrew Sorenson and Bob Bockrath.
