"The Game" is more of a Madison Ave deal. The Iron Bowl doesn't have to have huge TV markets and publicity to be as intense as it is. Inside the schools, not the clueless masses, it's not close. It's based on how important it is to win inside the respective programs.

1-12 is never a record a Bama or Auburn coach could ever have in the Iron Bowl.

Casual college football fans, especially those that grew up in an era where the Big 10 mattered, may hang on to OSU-Mich. But these are the same people who pretend Michigan State - Illinois is an important game

That is a real stretch of a statement. Equating MSU-Illinois to The Game would be like equating SCar-Vandy to IB. I don't even think that is a rivalry

Is IB more important right now, given the success of those two teams, and the SEC in general? Yes (well maybe not as much with a down Auburn). But that game is still massive. Two states that don't like each other, and not in just football, with legendary programs (out of Bama, Auburn, Michigan and OSU, Auburn is nowhere near the status of the other three) as well? Credit should be given to both of these rivalries.

And no, Oregon-Washington is not even in the same stratosphere of IB

I think some of you became college football fans in the past few years.

I will admit that some of the Iron Bowl intensity has dropped off recently. Alabama has a juggernaut. Auburn had 2010 but 2009 was average and 2011 and 2012 were embarrassments.

Something you may have missed was what Finebaum's show grew up doing. For years...decades even...it was the battleground for Alabama and Auburn fans to go at each other's throats all year long. The vitriol was just as heated in May as it was in November.

Finebaum has moved more national and since Alabama has been dominant and Auburn has sucked, there hasn't been as much need to let the callers gripe at each other as much.

Exactly. Nationally people don't understand sec football. All they know is that they hate us.

I'm not comparing them, I'm just indicating that the Big 10 gets unwarranted love, I think, because a lot of media types grew up in an era where the southeast (despite still having dominant teams) was considered regional.

Thus, you have ESPN and ABC trying to sell us Northwestern-Penn State as a big time matchup. Fewer and fewer people care about the Big 10 every year, and I think some in the media are getting jaded about it. Obviously Mich-OSU still has appeal, but I think it'll experience a slow decline like the rest of the conference.

And to be fair, the downward spiral of Big 10 states won't help that. HD television era, too. Mich-OSU looks like a scene out of "The Road," it is depressing as hell.

I love y'all.

Pac12 is doing well this year, but SEC football is fun to watch and fun to attend. And I was born a Big Ten, and undergrad at a MWC plus grad at an ACC. I have the opportunity to hate, but it's good football

Group hug?

Anyone?

That's a good point actually.

I wonder if in the future we see the game moved to night time. According to the SEC, the 11am kickoff means it's an insignificant game for the day.

I've lived in Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia.

They ALL know, very well, about the Alabama/Auburn rivalry.

ESPN's used it in several commercials.

The two teams own the last **4** national championships.

It would take a complete moron of a CFB fan to not know about the Iron Bowl.

I know it seems dumb, but I bet little things like that matter, even within the SEC. Nothing looks better than a 3:30 CBS game with UF and LSU in HD. It just "looks" like an important game. Contrast that with something like Ole Miss vs. TAMU. Seems a little more bland (and of course the teams are a little more bland).

I don't think that is determinative, obviously, but a lot of these SEC matchups just look awesome in the modern era and are made for television. Classic, bright uniforms playing in the southern sun or under the lights with huge, wild fan bases. It just sells. Some other schools, Oregon, for example, have that appeal too (in addition to playing exciting ball, obviously).

UAMDB1 Gameday Just Said Oregon-Washington is Like the Alabama-Auburn Rivalry Do fans of one side wish the opposing team's stadium would collapse into the largest known sinkhole in the world? Do they scream "BREAK HIS FRICKIN LEGS" when their defense is about to make a sack or tackle? Yeahhhh no. Probably not even close. I'm hateful when it comes to the Iron Bowl, to the point that I won't come close to admitting my depravity here.

I'm surprised that you are still alive after the Cam Bowl.
