I disagree. Few people know or care about the Tenn/Bama rivalry...far more know about the Iron Bowl

Harvey Updike kind of put the Iron Bowl back on the map

I try to explain to people my ideal scenario, but even my friends that really follow football don't agree.

For me, blowing Auburn out of the water isn't the dream. I want a game where #1 ranked Auburn is winning by 2 points with 1 second remaining. Bama has the ball. Onto the field limps our kicker, the least injured of our kickers after a freak accident involving a sub sandwich. Anyway, there he stands to kick the 62 yard field goal into the wind. Ball snapped, bounces off and through the uprights. Kick is good. Refs missed the false start. Bama wins. I want to bathe in the tears and breathe in the fumes of hope set fire in that moment.

The OSU/Michigan game is always mentioned first. No argument there. However, the Alabama/Auburn rivalry is usually the next one mentioned and then OU/Texas and Florida/FSU....and THEN the rest. There are many great intense rivalries but Alabama/Auburn is almost universally mentioned in the top 3 when the topic comes up.

Very true.

You're so wrong it's kinda funny.

ALmost everyone would name the OSU/Michigan as the rivalry in college sports

The Game is the Yankees/Red Sox of college sports.

But there are MANY regional rivalries that get plenty of pub outside of their regions. The IB is probably one of the best known.

No, you're just wrong. I wasn't even aware these two teams were even rivals. I'm willing to bet a lot more people know that Alabama and Auburn are rivals.

Thanks for making my point. The importance of rivalries are regional and you are biased.

Oregon/Washington isn't as big a deal as Oregon/Oregon St. though.

Maybe in Alaska, but I remember growing up in Minnesota people asking me "who I was for".

Majority of people outside SEC will say same thing about the TSIO...

That doesn't stop Bama fans from acting as if its one of the most sacred rivalries of all time

I can definitely see this point to a different end here. I've never been to a big rivalry game or lived in an area where there was a "big" rivalry that you might compare to Alabama and Auburn. I've only ever experienced the Iron Bowl as far as that goes. There's NO way I could really judge how things hit the fan up North or on the east coast compared to how things are in Alabama. I've known Alabama vs Auburn for my ENTIRE life. It's the only rivalry I've truly known. I can see how there would be a bias, easily.
