My 10-year old plays ball and I've seen dads like this. Heck I KNOW dads like this. Maybe it gets less important the further along in baseball you go, but I know of some above-average to good kids in our league where coaches will not draft them because of the parents. Blows my mind.

know several guys who played for Maineri at LSU, he's pretty well known to be a douchebag to his players. Definitely not a "players' coach".

Must be a Jeckyl and Hyde thing because he seems so nice on camera.

You can be a dick as a coach if people respect you. Doesn’t work if they think you’re a dick AND a bad coach.

I don’t really like dad coach posting on social media about it, but I think some would be surprised at the vile shite college coaches say to kids

D3 coach called kids pussies to their face. Also Said he wanted to “bash Player X’s head against the dugout bench” after he made a mistake

That’s not coaching imo. That’s just being a jackass and taking out your frustration like a child

I mean he should have pitched more. He wasnt a stud last year, but the stuff was there...frick he was far better than Matthew Becker

Thats all fine...and maybe the coaches deserved it, but as a man with a college age son, you should be wise enough to keep the criticisms off the internet. Tell your friends, or connected people in the AD...but dont burn bridges for your son

While I am against parents coming out against the coaching staff; I understand and agree with his assessment. He is just not a very good coach. Hope he didn’t screw his kid over by releasing this publicly.

Technically he's retired, but we are still living with some of his stupid decisions...

Which you damn near have to have the way college sports work now. The fact that Tanner hired an already-retired old man to coach in the days of NIL was never, ever going to work.

One of my best friends from high school played for Mainieri for 3 years prior to getting drafted. He told me some stories that really demonstrate the kind of person Mainieri really is.

He goes into recruiting and talks about Jesus and assures parents he’ll take care of their kids. When they get to campus he treats them like dog shite and the holy man is no more.

What bothers me more than anything else is that SC didn't need a cultural overhaul - it needed a shot in the arm and some legitimacy.

Mainieri has burned the whole damn program to the ground in year one. I don't like him, at all, and he's a poor fit here. But he doesn't even realize he's a poor fit, and he refuses to adapt to location and a program that had absolutely no shortage of pride and history.

I wish our new AD had the stones, or the money, to pull the plug on this asshat. We need a young coach who has a tie to what we have historically always been - a top5 SEC program, and the best program in SC/NC/VA.

Mainieri has a striking resemblance to Muschamp, in that he thinks he's too good to be here. frick that guy.

One thing about Pot Belly Paul Maineiri he is known for throwing his players under the bus wherever he is.
