Why are you suggesting y’all had more than one decent WR?

There’s a reason why Smith put up the numbers he did he was the only target

That “shitty team”/ program won a more recent NC than the program Smith chose.

Just sayin.

True, but Smith literally "won" a NC as a true freshman in OT. Played for a team that was a game or two away from the CFPs and NC caliber seasons for 4 years. And, now he is in position to win a Heisman, immortalize himself in Bama and CFB history, and possibly win another NC going out the door. I'm guessing he is okay with his decision.

Just sayin.

He's going to be a stud and a big problem for SEC teams.

So does his stats count now?

He already is. The kid is already separating himself as a top WR in the SEC.

Smith ended the season with one of the most memorable catches in CFB history to win a National Championship his freshman year, so he has that going for him.

Sure, but comparing production on the season to a moment are completely different worlds.

Smith had 8 catches his entire freshman year

You're right. Smith only caught the winning TD in overtime in the national championship game his freshman year. Nothing important.

Now all he's doing is being picked 1st team on all-american lists, winning several player of the year awards, probably the heisman and other awards; going to the CFP, possibly winning the national championship again.

Meantime, Boutte is sitting at home due to LSU opting out of a bowl game because of NCAA violations and players leaving the team at a record pace. Just sitting at home and watching Smith win all those awards.

We’re talking about the potential of a freshman WR based on comparisons to other freshman WR seasons.

Why are you talking about a fully proven college player?

Sorry the Bama team didn’t opt out his freshman year. You really think Boutte would have these stats if the 2 leading receivers didn’t quit midseason?

ETA. Just to be clear, Boutte has looked good, but for some reason LSU fans have this need for any player to be the best ever in the making based on one season, or in this case a few games at the end of a season against bad defenses. You all did it with Stingley last year, and he had nowhere to go but down in your estimation unless he was the second coming of Deion Sanders. Why not just let The guy develop?

The OM game is the sole reason for boutte’s stats

No but he certainly would have had more than 8 catches. I was just defending him from someone saying he didn’t look like he had the potential of Smith, a ridiculous claim based on what Smith had done to this point in his career.

The record books care for Boutte since he’s in them. ;)

I guess being the first WR in history to win the AP National Player of the Year will have to suffice.

* year. Isn't this what LSU fans have been saying. This year doesn't count.

Boutte looks really good. People just don't pay that much attention to players on .500 teams just playing out the string though. Hopefully he will get an opportunity to produce in meaningful games next year for LSU.
