I agree, but I still think that they were screwed last season. They had every right to be in the playoffs. Irrelevant to your post, but still...

Now they know how West Virginia felt.

Proves revisionist history is a thing. An insulting bowl game that the team opted out of doesn’t define FSU. Last year FSU actually earned a playoff spot. Unfortunately the College “playoff” is an invitational exhibition tournament instead of a playoff so they were excluded for non on the field reasons. On the field their record was superior to UGA and Bama.

For me personally, this what was annoying about the whole affair. It showed college football as marketing gimmick where matchups are determined in a conference room by old-line media execs.

FSU did not IMO represent one of the four most talented teams at that juncture. But watching guys like Kirk Herbstreit take to the airways in a sort of propaganda war to justify ESPN's influencing of the situation was annoying as well. The same setup pushed mediocre Notre Dame teams into the the playoffs where they would get completely blown out.

But now we have the expanded playoff, which should help.

FSU barely beat a 5-7 Florida team with both teams featuring their backup QBs

Yep. That game defined them, and so does the ACCCG and the bowl game. Wasn’t close to playoff quality.

What it proves is that FSU was a team full of mercenaries. At the first sign of real adversity, they bailed on the Seminole logo.

Would not losing their starting QB and having to play in an ACC title game without their 1st two options at QB healthy adversity? Because they stayed focus and driven enough to win with that adversity. It’s almost like that team of mercenaries said frick You to the system, not FSU.

Getting beat by 60 in that bowl is gonna stand forever.

And the reason the team boycotted the game will stay in the discussion forever. That’s the point. The playoffs isn’t a playoff without standards. It’s going to be an invitational tournament until this gets addressed. The only real championships were the BCS era ones.

This is giving them too much credit, they would've got boat raced in the playoff with or without their QB.

Georgia too, for that matter

I'm biased of course, but I think UGA would have won the playoff had they been put in.

UGA had an off day against Bama. That kind of thing happens and you have to live with the results, but UGA missed a FG and had an unforced fumble on a toss play which was a 6 point swing in a 3 point loss in the SECCG. I think UGA beats Bama in 7 out of 10 matchups last year... but the one that counted was one of the 30% bama would win. THat's football.

The big reason so many UGA players decided to play in the bowl game was they didn't want their last game to be a bad performance (win or lose).

Keep in mind their ACC championship opponent (Louisville) had lost to 7-5 Kentucky in Louisville the week before the ACC championship game as well.

That loss and FSU's poor showing against UF are what made FSU miss the playoff field. Had they handled UF and been able to claim a "big win" over Louisville, Bama likely wouldn't have made the field.

Did you watch that ACC championship game? It was some of the worst football imaginable. FSU would have been a pointless addition to the playoff without their QB, and they proved it. On top of that, 'Bama beat undefeated #1 UGA the same weekend. There wasn't really much of a discussion to be had after that.

One of worst schedules of all time as well. Beat LSU in first game of the year at neutral site and practically no one else. Cincinnati in 2021 with a G5 schedule faced better teams than FSU did.

As a Bama fan, you can realize there were 4-5 better teams than them and still think they got screwed.

It was bound to happen (and has happened several times) once it was decided to have 4 spots yet 5 "power conferences"

IIRC, FSU voted against expanding the playoffs sooner rather than later. So it's kind of their own fault they didn't get to play in the playoffs last year. And for that reason, I don't feel so bad for them.

I think it was the ACC that voted against expanding early. I don't think FSU or any other member schools had direct votes to accelerate the playoff expansion time table

Overall, Mike Norvell has been better for their program than previous ones, except of course the end of the season when they lost their qb. Was really a bonehead decision that got him hurt.
I’d love to see LSU get more opportunities to set the record straight with them, but doubt it’ll happen.

Playing your starting QB in the 1st quarter when you're down 13-0 is "bone-headed?"

Funny thing to say when you are advocating for a team that wasn't close to the quality standard of a playoff team.

You know that people think about Ole Piss? Absolutely Nothing.

Oh wait. That Admiral Akbar skit on ESPN a few years ago was kind of cute.

But other than that, nobody thinks about you. Bye-bye.
