Friday Night Lights
OU's season opener vs. Temple moved up one day to Friday, Aug 30 – the first Friday night home game in stadium history.
"We were asked to consider moving up the season opener by a day so ESPN could televise our first game as a member of the SEC in a primetime window," Joe Castiglione said.
Joe C said this is a "very unique situation" and no other Sooners home games will move to Thursday or Friday nights to conflict with high school football.

Real SEC teams don't play on Friday nights

Plus that is a fricking lie; they’ve played Tech at night at home before

Holiday weekend gets the game in early to enjoy rest of it
Aug is brutal hot here, this means a bit cooler game. The game was going to be 11am or 2:30pm in the hottest parts of day.
Recruits and players love night games. I actually think its a good move. Only game and national televised so no competition from the many Sat games.
I don’t like CFB games on Fridays due to HS, but this being so early in year is an exception. Allows fans to still have a full holiday weekend to do other Labor Day things.

Fact check: False. None played on a Fri night at home.

With 16 teams. I think you will see more of this unfortunately.. there are only so many time slots on the weekend.. so either you are double dipping a lot.. or you try to spread them out..

I mean, choice is Fri night only game nationally or Sat in Aug daytime heat regionally competing against rest of college football. I can support this one time move on a holiday weekend.

This is a smart move. Just don't choke against Temple.
