From the outside looking in: everyone who has even slightly followed them has known that Childress typically has a high floor. They will never be an easy sweep, or series, they have always made it to at least the regionals, and several years will host. It will also never be hard to recruit baseball players to Texas A&M, or really any big Texas power conference school for that matter.
But, they don't have the highest ceiling, especially when it has come to the postseason. And he hasn't made them a program that is consistently a conference championship or CWS championship contender. Their 2016 team was absolutely stacked and failed to make it past supers.
His time has come, and unless A&M makes some insane run to Omaha like they did in 2017, there's practically zero chance he gets an extension after this year, the final year of his contract.

Childress was going to be let go last year, but COVID screwed that up. Now he is a walking corpse in the last year of his contract. We won't even have to fire him

Carolina has too good of a team to be struggling like they are. Any Gamecocks around with any insight? They were a Super-regional team 2 years ago and have all those players back.

No idea, except that the SEC in softball is like SEC baseball...stacked. We've been losing to tough and highly rated teams. I really don't follow softball that closely though.
