He worked under Slive. Slive hired him to be associate commissioner back in the early 00s.
Slive is from Utica, NY. Sankey started his career in athletics admin at Utica College. They go way back, so yeah Slive had a lot to with Sankey getting the job. He had everything to do with Sankey getting the job actually

I think it’s one big fricked up mess with the way NIL is. Because the NCAA has lost a lot of power in these situations the conferences are trying to grasp control with their own rules. With that said I agree Sankey has not done much to help the conference during the playoff era and attacking one of his own teams openly during the process has not helped… but some of that is also due to the media and what they hype.

Secondly, I agree with everything you said. But he is petty and weak and plays favorites. Slive could get petty, but he was not weak and everyone knew you didn’t even think about fricking with him.
That’s SEC teams, Big Ten Teams, ESPN, big networks, bowl games, etc. He was feared by all and kept everything in house.

The ruling wasn't about the players.
It was about the conferences ability to punish the school.
That is why Kiffin didnt play the players
There is a federal ruling coming that will set this straight. All Sankey did is agree or back off on punishment until the fed court makes a ruling.

He testified under oath he didn’t know the NCAA rules for 5 for 5, or that his new petty rule was in violation of the NCAA rules.

Slive wasn’t perfect but he helped usher in some great things for the conference and wasn’t afraid to defend it when needed. I agree Sankey is not doing a good job putting us first.
