Don't know why that commercial pisses me off, but it does.

"Fortune favours the bold", "Fortune favours the brave" and "Fortune favours the strong" are common translations of a Latin proverb. The slogan has been used historically by people in the military in the Anglosphere, and it is used up to the present on the coats of arms of individual families and clans.

quote:

Well-Known Expressions Fortune favors the brave Meaning: People who act decisively make their own fate. Background: The first recorded use of this expression, or close variations of it, are from Roman times - in the writings of Ennius (239-169 BCE), Terence (190-159 BCE), Virgil (70-19 BCE) and Pliny the Elder (23-79 CE). For example in the Aeneis, Virgil writes Audaces fortuna iuvat (luck helps those who are brave). Other common forms include fortune favors the bold, fortune favors the daring and fortune favors the brave and the foolish.

Yeah, I just looked it up. Apparently it can be correctly translated "brave", "bold", or "strong".

So Matt Damon may or not still be an idiot, but if he is an idiot he now has company.

Damon is from Massachusetts, otherwise known as the land of idiots.

Wait, didn’t someone from the SEC hire one of those Massachusetts idiots recently?
