For those of you unfamiliar with the story, Luke Ford was a highly rated freshman TE at UGA. He redshirted his first year.

His grandfather, who had always been a major role model to him, started to become ill. Luke found out that he would not be allowed to fly down to Georgia to watch Luke play due to his health.

Despite being in line to compete for the starting job this year, he transferred to Illinois so his grandfather could watch him play.

Even though bigger names like Justin Fields and Tate Martell were granted immediate eligibility, Luke Ford was not. Luke sat out this year.

Today, Luke’s grandfather passed away. He never got to see Luke play.

quote:

My Grandpa just passed on to a better place in heaven. Love you Papa! I’m sorry you didn’t get to see me play in person, my heart is devastated... Rest in Paradise

Damn that’s depressing. Hopefully he at least got to spend more time with him than if he had stayed at uga- just hoping for a silver lining.

It’s one of the more un-talked about stories in sports how blatant the NCAA was with granting waivers to guys like Justin Fields and Tate Martell, while not giving an inch on guys that deserved it.

Rules is rules.

Without rules we have anarchy.

Sorry grandpa .... Luke knew the rules.

Sorry Luke .... you knew the rules when you signed.

Transfers should sit out a year, unless they have a good reason to transfer, handled on a case by case basis....

Example: Justin Fields couldn't beat out Fromm, so he transferred. NCAA denied immediate eligibility. But Luke Ford had a family illness a thousand miles away, so NCAA allowed him immediate eligibility.

Oh wait....

Umm what?

The NCAA had a rule and he had to follow by it. It sucks and it’s incredibly unfortunate but a lawsuit is insane.

Fields played the race card
Martells coach left out of nowhere

Not saying it’s right or wrong but the NCAA didn’t make Fords grandfather ill.

Clearly thinking is tough for you.

I’m not saying the NCAA granting his eligibility is right or wrong but a lawsuit isn’t warranted in this situation.

Better now little guy?

Tom Mars is the family lawyer.

What do you think they are going to do? Attorneys dont make money sitting idly by. Never let a tragedy go to waste.

NCAA denied him a waiver of eligibility when he had a FAR better case than 3 other people who received one.Including another "family illness"
