Can State fans explain why you take this guy instead of going with Thompson? I thought Thompson was a good fit for the offense, or am I missing something here?

Would expect Thompson to hit the transfer portal now.

Thompson is a career 46% passer and Stevens is like 70%.

Thompson was a great fit for Mullen's offense. Not Moorhead's. One requires an accurate down field passer, one did not

Thompson has a red shirt and I expect him to take it this season after he plays in 4 games. He will learn From Tommy one more year and be the man next year.

Lol, maybe so. Honestly it doesn’t really matter when Stephen “Crisco fingers” Guidry is the primary target.

3rd year for Thompson

Only 1 year under Moorhead's system vs 2 years for Stevens. Like LSU the coach thinks bringing in the transfer QB gives him a better chance at winning. Let the best QB win the position.

Stevens rarely ever threw the ball at PSU, he had 11 passes last season as a redshirt junior, not sure how you can determine anything on that. From what I've read up, the knock on him is accuracy as well. Doesnt seem that different from Fitz really.

Thompson isn't really a fit for the Moorhead offense. Fitz really wasn't either, but he was what we had. Stevens is the prototypical Moorhead QB. No excuses for the offense to pick up from last year.

State is not going to have the #1 defense in the nation again, so we need to pick up the slack on the offense. Our baseball team scored more last night than the football team scored against four SEC teams combined this past season.

I think if we continue to see Sly Croom type production out of the offense in conference games, Moorhead will enter year 3 on the hot seat. Maybe he knows that and felt desperate to find a quick fix.

Funny.

Moorhead is terrible. He had MSU’s best roster ever last year.

I honestly don't know anything about Stevens. I don't know if he's better or worse than KT. But I hope that we get a QB who will actually run JoMo's offense so we can all get a fair assessment as to whether it can work in the SECW for MSU.

Not to bash anyone, but an RPO offense can only be successful when there is truly an option. Last year the P part was only an option when it was forced to be. The option was forced, so then the passes were forced, and everything looked like a monkey copulating with a football a lot of the time.

Stop being simple. The roster doesn't matter if you or me are taking the snaps. That's why this QB needs to be a fit.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post.
But why wouldn’t there always be an option at State?

For as long as my team has been in the conference, State has always had the “P” part nailed.
Subsequently, the “O” typically works like a ballet, since the defense expects a pass play.

Seems likes a great fit to me (which is bad scenario for A&M).

Because the QB read run as the first, second, and third option. I don't blame the guy. He was a much better runner and he was trying to win the games. It just didn't fully utilize the scheme

Moorhead is 46-18 as a head coach. 71% winning percentage

Morris is 16-32 as a head coach.
33% winning percentage
Outside of high school, Morris hasn't won anywhere that he is been.

Was that a coaching (Mullen) decision or player call?

What’s this new cat (Stevens) like, in terms of his strength (e.g., running vs passing)?

In tough games Mullen tended to lean on his QB running the ball. Look all the way back at Tebow's last year. I felt like Nick Fitz was just falling back on his strengths and his previous training.

I know exactly squadoosh about Stevens.
