ESPN's Joe Schad reports former Oklahoma State sophomore QB Wes Lunt is deciding between five schools.
Southern Miss, Illinois, Louisville, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are the five schools. Southern Miss makes the most sense, after the school hired former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their head coach. Lunt will have to sit out a season after transferring.
Would he start at Tenn or Vandy?
Who would be his competition?
2014 Tenn:
QB's:
Justin Worley (SR)
Nathan Peterman (JR)
Josh Dobbs (RSFR/SO)
Riley Ferguson (RSFR/SO)
2014 Vandy:
QB's:
Patton Robinette (SO)
Josh Grady (JR)
Johnny McCrary (RSFR/SO)
Chad Kanoff (RSFR/SO)
KJ Carta-Samuels (FR)
Elijah Stanley (FR)

Has to sit out at either school so way too early to speculate.

There's some solid young talented competition at QB in 2014 for Vandy. He would definitely be in the mix but no guarantee. I suspect that S. Miss is where he ends up.

You'd figure MSU would be making a push for him considering their need for QB depth next year.

Same class as Peterman, who is #2 on depth chart now. Lunt was #7 Pro-Style, Peterman was #8. He'd definitely be in the running.

With the except of Cam and Mallet D1 transfers at QB rarely work-out. There are always exceptions, but they are rare.
Russell Wilson from NC State to Wisconsin was a special case of a fifth year player who walked into a perfect system for his needs, and theirs. South Carolina turned-down Wilson's offer for continuity and chemistry reasons ... plus we had spanked his arse twice while he was QBing at NC State.
Tanner McElvoy left South Carolina, did a year in JuCo, and is now at Wisconsin to replace Wilson. We'll see how that goes.

He'd be fortunate to start wouldn't he? I think this might finally be the year they have a QB that was on the team last year.

Yall may think I'm crazy, but I have heard from a VERY reliable source that Southern Miss is a big time player in the Lunt sweepstakes. (I live in Hattiesburg FWIW)
New Southern Miss HC Todd Monken was the OC at OSU last year and was very close with Lunt, he was also his lead recruiter out of HS.

When he first announced his transfer, one of the oSu coaches said he will end up at Mizzou. Lunt's girlfriend also attends Mizzou.
Since then, Mizzou has dropped completely out of the conversation. I'm not sure if he was turned down or the oSu coach was just wrong.

Nathan Peterman
Josh Dobbs (arrives this summer)
Riley Ferguson (arrives this summer)
I don't think our starter is on campus yet.

Be very surprised if he doesn't end up with Monken.

I don't doubt that Southern Miss is the leader. He will have real competition at Vandy. We have 3/4* incoming freshman as well as 2014 commit that is 4/5*

Why would we think you're crazy when you basically repeated what was in the original post?

Actually the transferring QB as a failure is an interesting topic. Very few successes and colossal failures. All these 4 and 5 star talents that turn into complete head cases. That kid from Indiana to LSU to Notre Dame that is now at Cincy I'm willing to bet is a total bust. QBs that are not in really good shape mentally can go south when they move up a level in competition.

or the one that transferred from Auburn to Ball St. to play TE.
