What you said was a gross exaggeration. He probably shouldn't have been charged at all, but once he was, the smart thing to do was probably to plead guilty for light punishment just to resolve the issue.

ETA- if he had beat her in public, he would have been charged with a felony, like Jonathan Taylor was.

Then why did she press charges? Also, next time you see her, ask her why she checked the box for '1-5' for the number of past police complaints she had about Sanders? How many times before the incident when he was arrested did he beat her?

Richt once suspended Rennie Curran for a game because he failed to pay a moving violation ticket on time.

Richt suspends guys to keep the team in check. He has said as much multiple times. But when you occupy the same space as the media capital of the South, you're going to get a lot of bad publicity for it; sunshine pumping about how great a leader Richt is will sell papers to the UGA fans. Beating the drum about Richt's lack of control will sell papers to UGA fans, Tech fans, and the rest of the SEC contingent that heavily occupies Atlanta. Other coaches deal with discipline issues in other ways. Some just don't give a shite and only suspend guys for PR reasons (Meyer while at UF). Others legitimately feel that they have a better method of keeping the team in line (Malzahn at Auburn). And a lot of coaches we just don't know about because they're either not under the same media spotlight or because they've found a legitimately good way to handle things in their own programs. I guarantee you that every program has guys running afoul of either the law or team rules on a regular basis. It's just the nature of 85+ young adult men in a college town to test their boundaries and go too far off the rails. It just depends on how the coach and program chooses to handle it and UGA has opted for a very strict and transparent policy.

She didnt press charges. In GA the state can press charges on that, supposed to take the burden off the victim being afraid or too desperate to file.
