For all those who think football should be canceled for the safety of student athletes

Are these kids better off at home? Do you really think 18-22 y/o kids are going to stay put in their homes? If you do youre very wrong, and so far removed from the mindset a kid that age has. With football atleast they have a reason to avoid going out and possibly getting covid19, because they want to play. There is structure in school and consequences that affect their dream of playing in the NFL. There are also better precautions taken at school to avoid covid19 vs being at home.

I agree they are safer (regardless of how much more) playing football.

Arent most schools still having people on campus anyways in some capacity?
These players are just going to be at bars and house parties instead.
Football practice and games will be the furthest away from people they will be all fall.

They better not be.
A positive test means that player doesn’t play.

Then you also agree that prostitution should be legalized across the board and mandated to brothels only. Because both the prostitute as well as the client are far less likely to catch an STD or be the victim of a crime or abuse if it is in a regulated environment where constant testing and condom use is mandatory.

What the kids do at home is their responsibility. That should have no bearing. Not to mention that it ignores everyone else involved.
We're still learning about Covid-19 and still don't know all the dangers. Football is a game and not something we can't live without. I know many will respond that it's a business, but it's still a business built around a game and not a necessity. Without all the money, this wouldn't be such a big issue.

Almost nothing is a "necessity". Restaurants. Electronics. Entertainment. Most vehicles. Any drinks but water.
But what is the point of life without them?

True. You can pick and choose where you want to draw a line. In this case, I pick safety first. I realize that will be unpopular here, but I can do without football.
How often do we read about a tragic event in sports and people say "it really puts everything in perspective" or "it's just a game"? The push to play football now has me questioning the sincerity of those comments.

Ok, but who defines "safety"? How far is "safe enough"? I think Saban got it right when he said that his players are far safer playing than meandering around campus.

I say let the medical experts decide.
You have legit arguments on both sides and I understand both. I'm just giving my opinion and mean no disrespect to others. Whatever happens, hopefully it's the right decision and works out for everyone. I'd just prefer to take the conservative route and not take any chances.

Unfortunately for these university presidents it’s not about the safety of the student athletes. It’s about the liability of the school if they catch covid.... lawyers ruin everything

Are they attending class with other students? It would seem that it would require all of the player’s classes to be on-line. I doubt that the players, staff, etc will have 100% compliance with gatherings, masks, etc. Like you said, the behaviors of college kids is not easy to predict or control.
Now, multiply that with opponent’s compliance, behaviors etc. Toss in travel and other factors. Think of it in the terms “chaos theory” similar to Jurassic Park.
I would love to see them play but it’s an uphill climb.
I would bet that the current thinking in the SEC is buying time while hoping for the best. It’s posturing so they can look at players and fans and say “we gave it our best shot.”

I'm with you.
Why do people have a need to try and tell others what to do and what is safe for them. If anyone thinks crowds or public gatherings are dangerous then stay the frick at home and wear a mask and gloves. Nobody is stopping them.

I agree. For months I’ve been saying people need to shelter at home if they are afraid and let the rest of us live our lives.

Why is it illegal in the first place? I can sell you my kidney but I can't rent you my sex organ? Really?

Not for this reason but I'm tired of the SJW bullshite and how racist I am for being born white. I don't care if they ever play again.

Playing football, bad!!!
Kids on campus, sitting in classrooms with +60 others while earning a Liberal Arts degree is completely fine.

Yes, it should be legalized. Not sure why you'd limit it to brothels only.
In any case, the logic jump isn't quite sound. It is not about the individual choice of the student athlete to play or not play. It is about the liability the Univeristy is unwilling to assume given the current unknowns of Cv-19.

What about this idea. The football players do virtual learning. The entire team as well as coaches and any essential staff, relocates to the appropriate team hotel for the entire season, they have class via Zoom, etc. tutors via zoom, meetings are at the hotel, they are there 24/7, except to leave for practice, treatment, and games, the entire hotel is rented only to the football team. It would be a pain for sure, but if you really want to play, then this type of bubble would work.
