Women sports have a place.

Money is money, however.

Why demean your whole University's Athletic Program for something that isn't worth watching to begin with?

You have to cater to whatever works, financially, to your Athletic Department.

Women's sports are a financial drainage historically. This is why Stanford pumps money into Men's Volleyball, Men's Gymnastics and Water Polo.

Soccer, Wrestling and Lacrosse really needs to be added to the SEC in the future.

Soccer would do better than Baseball in the SEC. It just may not get that oppurtunity

I’m saying you take a massive money hit. Build men’s soccer it’s own proper stadium and field, get proper coaches and training staffs, and properly market it, and within 30 years it would be either the second or third biggest revenue sport. Honestly I think it would pass basketball.

you honestly think soccer games could average over 8,500 people in the states of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana? That is a bad take and not because I hate the sport.

there is no way this happens. March Madness alone generates more money than the entire bowl season. 90% of the NCAA's revenue is made from march madness

Exactly.

We would kill it in an already popular sport internationally.

The Olympics in Japan have already cornered it specifically due to its popularity.

I think that the SEC needs to broaden its horizon.

We definitely have the resources.

Just look at MLS. No one in America really cares about those games. Hell I couldnt name 3 teams (I know the dynamo because I have seen them play) but millions of americans can name the last super bowl, finals, and world series winners. soccer isnt what it is in other countries here in america

Your right. No one cares about Soccer. Ecspecially not in the Southeast

Easily. If you can get over 10k for baseball, you can get around 30k for soccer.

The soccer calendar is much more like football(or more comparatively basketball) too to where you only have 1 maybe 2 games per week.

The NHL averaged a little over 17000 people per game yet makes more. There isn’t a desire to watch soccer on tv in america unless it’s world cup/olympics.

You honest to god fricking think Mississippi State can get 30 fricking thousand people to watch soccer but can hardly get 3 thousand to watch a basketball game? I realize you like soccer but that would never happen and will never happen.

That is true. A lot of us who follow the league absolutely loathe the current US Soccer structure and how they treat the league. Just think it took them over 20 years after it's founding to even find the #1 fanbase in all of soccer. They completely ignored the Southeast market and what they didn't realize was that the Southeast market is one of the biggest in the country.

And I've been to plenty of MLS games to tell you that is the case.

MSU fans are too focused on Women's Basketball and are stupid and somehow believe that the Men's Basketball program sucks to support them so not a good comparison there.

But yes if the US Soccer does their job in making and competing in World Cups, it would trickle down to Mississippi and any other State like it has for the past 30 years.

The current MLS tv deal is abysmal compared to the NHL and other leagues. Also bad scheduling is a result of the decrease of popularity.

Also unlike other major US leagues. MLS teams don't just compete in the MLS. They compete in national and Continental cups like the CONCACAF champions league.

but for every male sport a University must have a female sport of some sort. Adding male soccer would also add another female sport............which means two additional sports an athletic dept. must fund.

This thread was about making more money.........not finding a way to piss away more money.

Soccer in American University athletics is inevitable. The SEC would kill it going forward.

The money would be insane.

We have the resources, the future athletes, and the fan-bases to make it one of "our" sports.

Get rid of that rule.

Easy.

Women sports add nothing.

Why have them in the first place?

Why destroy a whole Athletic Department because women need to feel equal?

That is not fair to men in relation to sports overall.

That is not how the World works.

We already have it.

Our women's national team is much more popular than our men's national team.............yet women's soccer at the collegiate level is a non-revenue generating sport.

I don't understand why you think men's soccer, at the collegiate level, would be so wildly popular?

soccer is the most played sport in the world. Yet in America it is a second class sport. F1 is the most popular form of auto racing in the world. Yet in America it is all about Indy cars or NASCAR. The point being, what is popular worldwide doesn't mean it is popular in our country.
