I've lived in or near Athens for 23 years, and I have never even heard of the place listed for it.

Merrick Inn is excellent. High dollar, but well worth it. Most of those other places don't look like they're expensive. Odd they'd go that route for us.
We've got a shite ton of great local places. You certainly cant go wrong getting dressed up and taking a lady to Merrick Inn after Keeneland. Bourbon and cigars on the patio are highly recommended.

UF's isn't even open. That's how shitty this list is

If you are traveling up on hwy 65 in southeast Arkansas there’s Hoot’s BBQ in Mcgehee right on the highway. It’s good.

Athens = 5 Bar? It’s from Alabama.

Being a fan of a team that is entering the league I find the list interesting but troubling if the other picks are anything like that of Norman.
Their pick in Norman "The Porch", is a cool place due to it's "upstairs" outdoor patio location across the street from campus. But it's basically a bar with food. And in a town that is mostly made up with "bar with food" establishments... it probably isn't in the top 10 as far as the actual food.
It's too new to be an institution like three or four other places at it's location on campus corner. And be forewarned, for those who will be attending games here, Norman has never been much for fancy restaurants. There are a couple, but most of those are in OKC.
Seems like they did the same thing with all the other SEC towns except for Lexington and maybe a couple of other towns.
I'm more interested in learning about the places that are institutions in the town and have feed generations of football fans or have some role in the history of the program.
For those who come to Norman those places would be 1) O'Connells 2) The Mont 3) Othellos... All on campus corner.
In downtown Norman, the buildings that now host "The Winston" and "Benvenuti's" have a lot of history with Norman and OU. Benvenuti's is probably the finest dining in town.

The Chicken is college Bar with history close to the campus. A place to dunk your senior ring, have a few drinks with friends, play a game of pool. But not a first choice anyone picks to eat as far as I know. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I went there to eat.

The chimes is solid but it’s not the best restaurant in BR.
I agree with it not being the best restaurant in Baton Rouge, but for an out of towner here for a football game, its a great recommendation. It's adjacent to campus, college town atmosphere, has a wide variety of food options, pretty much everything is at the least solid, huge beer selection, and its priced well.
Plus the wait staff is easy on the eyes.

Shakespeare's is great
their sauce is very unique IMO and very standout - someone is a genius on that sauce
been a long time, seems like they do a more than normal sprinkle of cheddar among the mozzerella - or I have early Dementia - or both

Evangeline’s was the best food experience I’ve had in Tuscaloosa and that was 15-20 years ago. I know Chuck’s is there and it’s the same Chuck’s as in Bham, and it’s solid.
Evangelines is and has been arguably the single best restaurant in Tuscaloosa for years yet almost never gets mentioned even by Tuscaloosa locals. DePalmas, Chuck’s Fish, and even Cypress Inn are all better than the ones listed. No Acre for Auburn? Baton Rouge has quite a few places better than The Chimes. 5 bar is a Ttown place and Athens no doubt has its own places that are better. This list is pretty weak for all SEC towns. Oxford's pick is closest in accuracy

It’s a decent place(there is one in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa) but I can’t imagine it being anywhere close to the best experience in Athens. It’s run by the same group that does Harbor Docks in Destin if you’ve been there.

I went to the Chicken in the 70's, it was like every other bar in every little town in Texas. Did have a foosball table and we drank our fill on the aggies tab. Ugly arse women, but it was the 70's.
Before the Bush Library, probably the only "cultural" sight in CS.
