It was a back handed compliment to Saban. Gotta have some perspective when it comes to coaches speaking at these Club meetings around the state.

I think most of it can definitely be read that way (I doubt the dude sat out that day to flame Saban). But it wasn't very smart on his part to call him the devil when other coaches have had to apologize for that and really not sure what to make of the "Champ is like Saban, besides Champ has a personality" part. That part is pretty hard to take as a compliment to Saban.

Saban didn't give him a chance in coaching, the guy started in 1983. He has been around for a while.
I love how people are making such a big deal about what an OL coach has said at an alumni function.

Look, I don't like what he said, I think there was a more eloquent way to say Champ has a better personality. Really nothing needed to be said about Saban, but I think most people think Saban is tops in CFB in terms of coaches so Davis wanted to say something about champ in comparison. He just had poor wording IMO.

The freaking season cant get here soon enough and then we get to prove it on the field....and Im waiting on a certain fanbase to get their crap together and start the drumbeat...setting alarm for mid August.

Mark May being his usual douche-self with this quote. This really is much ado about nothing.
It may have been a bit much, but I don't think he was trying to go all personal on Saban.
