I dunno but to see Bama fans see what it’s like actually get bad calls again is entertaining

I guess after ou fans studied pictures for a whole day it was the right call. Really looking out for bama mistakes but not looking at about 5 face masks on Milroe. So basically just unfortunate situation for bama.

I stated last night that the only plausible explanation I saw was that maybe the outside WR (#18) reported to the official that he was on the LOS. But I’ll add that, if this was the explanation - why didn’t the ref just say that?
I went back and found the play on the ESPN app from the broadcast. Obviously Bama was scrambling to get into formation. 18 is at the bottom of the screen. I see he is doing something with his hands…the first movement isn’t clear and the second is blocked off by the score graphic….my absolute guess would be the first movement he reported was “on” and then he corrected with “off”.
I also have a second possible explanation. There is a TE lined up to the right side (wearing an eligible number) who was covered up by Williams. The LT was on the other left end with no eligible WR.
I also wonder IF the official got confused or forgot who the player wearing an eligible number that was covered up was?
Note: both of these are just guesses at an explanation for why the incorrect call was made.

I personally don’t feel the receiver was covered because the defender was 7 yds off the LOS. I’m pretty sure you have to have one eligible receiver on each side of center on the LOS and must be the widest out on each side. If you are lined up on the LOS inside of the widest, you are considered covered or ineligible. Williams was correctly lined up off the LOS to make him eligible. I think the referee got confused. Side note: According to Rule 12, Article 8 of NCAA Football rule book, illegal touching is a reviewable call. However, the language doesn't specify whether the call on the field can be overturned — only that a "replay official may create a foul when there is no call by the on-field officials:"

It was an illegal formation…..
They called it ilegal touching because ?? This is where I get lost
Someone on the interwebs explained it. If i find it i will link to it….
Bama did not have 7 on the LOS

As someone cheering against Alabama last Saturday that generally approves of Alabama TDs being taken off the scoreboard in whatever setting, even I had a ton of misgivings and suspicions about that call. The up high angle replay made me want an investigation into that particular sideline ref. Dude did his best to make it seem like he personally needed that not to be a TD for whatever reason.
Doubt it mattered ultimately because it clearly just wasn't Bama's night. But still, Alabama got hosed there and were robbed of the chance to see if they could rally down just 2 possessions with momentum early 4th quarter.

There weren’t any face mask on Milroe. Quit making shite up because you can’t handle adversity.

They had 7. 5 interior lineman, a TE to the right side along with the slot WR Williams. Williams was the end WR and while there was a TE on the LOS inside of him, making him ineligible, he stayed into block
I think the ref got confused with trips formation and/orthought Williams and not the TE was the ineligible receiver and fricked up the call.

I'm totally biased against Alabama but they got screwed it was a horrible call. I don't need a forensic examination of photographs, I've been watching football for 40 years and that call was just wrong.

If you say it is 7 on the LOS then the wide right WR does cover up Williams since you need the wide right WR to get to 7 on the LOS

You can call it roughing the passer then. Happened a few times. The refs did not decide the game, but they missed/ blew several calls.
They were chasing the Jason Autrey crew level of incompetence last night.

No you dont. The five interior lineman, the TE and Williams in the slot were all on the LOS. The other two WR's in the trips formation bracketing him were both off the LOS making them eligible. Go to the 1:14 mark. The formation was completely legal, and Williams was an eligible WR.

Ok I see 7 . What did the SEC say about it? Could be in that formation the LT not reporting as eligible or not really being on LOS could come into play but that would not affect Williams…..my guess is the wide right WR must have been considered on the LOS that would cover up Williams….
In any case it was inconsequential. Bama lost because, 1 Bama could not stop OU, 2 Bama could not run on OU, 3 Sooner DL destroed the Bama Oline harassing Milroy all night, 4 Milroy threw 3 interceptions

That Official reffed his last SEC game.

Nothing yet. My bet is they admit it was a bad call tomorrow. shite happens.

That is probably it. The formation would still be legal, but Williams would be an ineligible receiver. The ref at bottom throws flag as Williams goes to catch the ball. If he hadn't been the first to touch the ball, I would assume same ref would've still thrown a flag for Williams being an ineligible receiver downfield in his mind. A bad call and its unlikely he was able to get help since he is the line judge and the only official responsible for that aspect of the play..

LOL. Jason Autrey’s crew goes to work every week.

Williams wasn't an ineligible receiver. He was on the line of scrimmage and he was the furthest person outside on the right on line, so it makes him eligible. I don't get the call. Alabama had 7 guys on the line. Only the TE was ineligible.
