He’s right though. It’s kind of a no-brainer.

And I tend to agree.

Nick Saban was never bigger than Alabama. We, collectively, are grateful that he was there and did what he did but The Crimson Tide was there before him and will be fine after him.

You can't take off the names of what are basically the foundational structure of Alabama football in Denny and the lifeblood of the program for a quarter of century in Bryant.

I'm sure Saban feels grateful to have his name attached to the football field, where he worked his magic, at the University of Alabama.

A weak and trash program with no history is much more likely to bow to the the temporary and fleeting pressure of recency bias to remake its image.

Sure you can and you should. Words convey thought. In this case, you are making a powerful statement with your college brand. Recruits visiting Bryant-Saban Stadium carry weight. This is the era of NIL and the University is just as concerned with branding, profits, and winning as it ever has.

Why build all these outstanding complexes and upgrades on sports stadiums and facilities and not give them the brand that makes them unique?

This is the kind of shite that annoys me to be 100% honest. It's the same kind of shite people did after Bear died. Tribute this, tribute that, what bear would have wanted, what Bear would have done, blah blah blah.

Funny part is Bryant and Saban honestly wouldn’t give 2 shits if their name is on the stadium

If you want to advertise the 2 best coaches ever for recruiting purposes by all means do it, but neither of those guys were the personalities that would care one way or the other about such trivial things

When the State legislature changed the name of Denny Stadium to Bryant Denny it was in 1975. Do the math, Coach Bryant was still head coach and he was also AD at ALABAMA for another 7 years. Coach Bryant was that rare head coach who was still doing his thing while playing in a stadium with his name on it. You don't know what you're talking about.

It did matter to him. These coaches have egos and pride in their accomplishments. I would venture to guess the greatest coaches seem to be concerned about their legacy more than most. Coach Saban got a statue outside of Bryant Denny after his first NC in 2010. Did he say no, it was just too early for such acknowledgment? Nope, he showed up for the unveiling like everyone else.

Finebaum is right. It’s a no brainer to give him a name on the stadium and it’s wild how badly Alabama officials fricked it up.

Denny wasn’t a football coach or player at Alabama. Get his name off there

Naming the field after him is pretty weak that's for sure. Kind of agree with Finebaum on this one unfortunately.

Our field is named after two Heisman winners, Campbell-Williams field, and I think it's an appropriate honor.

I don't agree with Finebaum on a lot, but I think he's right about this one. Bump Denny to the field, stadium should be Bryant-Saban.

No one has thrown out the possibility that it was run by Saban and he declined changing the stadium name

Agreed.

It's also possible that there are additional plans in place that involve future construction.

Yeah, no.

Nick Saban WAS Alabama for almost two whole decades. He had been the face of college football since 2012 or so. The man, like Bryant before him, was quite literally bigger than the game.
