Jeremy Pruitt said he texted Brian Maurer, who didn't make the trip, before the game and said if they won tonight it would be because of the look he gave the defense on scout team this week. Said he was "phenomenal" in practice.
I've seen it suggested this young man has had serious mental health concerns this year. Telling him he played amazing in practice this week but not good enough to play and not better than Jarrett Guarantano can't help.

This was Barry Odom's problem.

He wasn't an a-hole but had the warmth and personality of a pet rock. zzzzzz

but the key is that for a very long time there was very little of the later. That is the key. Saban can be a dick but he wins, that is all that matters.

Hell, you don't even have to lose that many....just lose to certain teams and you're gone!

Once these guys get a HC position their ego's won't let them go back to being an assistant.

It can certainly paint an alarming pattern from Pruitt.

Go back to the Kentucky game and the firing of the Brumbaugh.

Then look at his post game comments on in game decisions and quotes from the article below and they are all but interchangeable.

Nashville Post

quote:

“Yesterday I decided to make a change at the D-line position,” Pruitt said on Monday. “Coach Brumbaugh has done a really nice job for us, he worked his tail off. Sometimes from a philosophical standpoint, things are just not a fit, and it just didn’t work out for us, so I decided to [dismiss him].

quote:

…This is no knock on Jimmy as a coach, whatsoever. He’s one of the most knowledgeable coaches I’ve been around and he’ll do a good job wherever he goes. Just something I felt like we needed to do, and we did it.”

quote:

“If it’s not working out, it’s better just to do it right now,” Pruitt said. “Me and Jimmy had a really good conversation. Unfortunately, probably because of the COVID circumstance, when you’re a new coach and you’re not able to be around your players in March, April, May, and limited in June, it puts you at a disadvantage.”

Pawl is wrong. HS coaches in my town are far better at speaking English.

You a correct. He'd be an excellent Mickey Andrews for Saban or his successor.

Tennessee's talent isn't THAT good. Their defense is devoid of playmakers. They don't have a good option at QB. They have some raw young talent at WR and Palmer, but it's an average group. Their young 5-star OL have definitely been underachievers so far.

And their schedule includes Bama, Florida, A&M and UGA, not to mention a trip to Auburn. Expecting that roster to go 8-2 against that schedule is preposterous.

Losing to Arkansas and Kentucky, though? That's unacceptable.

Puhleeze George. Pruitt is a moron. That defense was less talented last year and still outranked BAMA. Fulmer shelled out good money to paper over Pruitt's idiocy with very good assistants and now that they're gone to the NFL it's showing.

You think this Tennessee team should win 8 games???????

Pruitt has been awful, but "I could coach this team to 8 wins" is silliness. 4 of the 10 games are against Top 6 teams.

Losing to Arkansas and Kentucky is pathetic, though. Especially the ways they lost.

Should? frick no. Pruitt has coached them to be drooling balless dumbasses that resemble him and gimped them even more by playing JG. Had we started or even played HB earlier in the Auburn game (or the UK or...) we're having a different conversation.

And don't act like the notion of 8 wins is based on a COVID shortened schedule.

Oh, I was under the impression we were talking this year with this schedule.

Yea, normal 12 game schedule with 3 cupcakes this roster should definitely win 8 games.

Chaney is maddening.

We had 8 last year and lost to the cupcakes. You're not good at this.

Haha I don't think we're on the same wavelength here. My only point was winning 8 games vs the current schedule would have been coach of the year stuff.

Pruitt's done an awful job. The "improvement" at the end of last year clearly was just playing a bunch of bad teams.

It was JG coming off the bench and playing mediocre but JG isn't capable of doing that regularly and Pruitt has steadfastly refused to see it. Pruitt will start JG against Vandy. His stubbornness has cost his team and will rightly cost him his job.
