"For all of the things that Jeremy Pruitt has done well at Tennessee and I’ll have to get back to you on what those are, his public relations has been abysmal," Finebaum said Monday during his weekly spot on WJOX FM. "That’s from the beginning. I know people at Tennessee that have offered to help him and council him and try to give him opportunities. I’ve been on the set with him before in Knoxville.

"I asked him once just a layup on Phil Fulmer and he couldn’t even answer that correctly. He is still a high-school football coach when it comes to public relations. I know that probably sounds like an insult to the great high-school coaches out there who are communicators. What I mean by that is he just will not communicate in an appropriate way."

"He doesn’t understand that the fan base is, or at least until recently, was rooting for him and wants him to succeed," Finebaum said. "His press conferences are usually a disaster as a result going back to the Alabama game, this game, countless other times."

Tennessee has no excuse to be where they are right now. I could coach that talent to 8 wins

Some people simply don't have the personality it takes to engage the public which is an important aspect of being a HC. Pruitt might be better off taking another job as a DC; he's a good one.

Like Finebaum belongs on the national level of media reporting?

Not knowing what asparagus is should have been a pretty clear indicator of the type of guy Pruitt is.

Did he do something in particular? Or is Finebaum just saying he's a bad orator in general?

Pruitt is built to be a 1986 SEC head coach.

To be fair, he was a high school football coach the last time Tennessee beat Alabama.

Finebaum would have alot more credibility if he would say things like this BEFORE things became a disaster at UT.

Who didn't know Pruitt doesn't come off well at interviews and PR. Hell,I said his pressers were gonna be a disaster the day they hired the guy.

He knows his defense but doesnt have the emotional intelligence to succeed as a big time CFB HC

His Auburn postgame press conference was particularly abysmal

Does Jarrett Guarantano give Tennessee the best chance to win: "Absolutely. If I didn't think so, I wouldn't play him. He didn't miss two field goals. He didn't blow a coverage," Pruitt said.

Jeremy Pruitt asked about Jim Chaney's performance as OC: "Did you watch the game? We had more yards than they did."

Jeremy Pruitt said he texted Brian Maurer, who didn't make the trip, before the game and said if they won tonight it would be because of the look he gave the defense on scout team this week. Said he was "phenomenal" in practice.

Pruitt is getting irritated... Asked about fans not liking the direction the program is going in - "My job is to coach. If you want to ask me a football question ask me a football question."

Jim Donnan had a similar problem at UGA. Dude "insulted" an icon at UGA and pretty decent human being one time and it went downhill and fast....Donnan couldve been a decent coach somewhere.

That whole PR thing is over rated. Pruitt is on hot water because he isnt' winning. Being the most charismatic, warm funny guy won't make up for losing games in this conference.

Being a nice guy to the media will buy you some goodwill in the public relations department. Being a jerk to the media does not get you anywhere. They have a job to do just like the coach has a job to do. Sometimes when I hear these coaches go off I feel embarrassed for them. You know their mother and wife cringe when they hear them.

Bobby Bowden was one of the best when it came to the media that I have ever seen. I don't know what he said when the doors were closed but he had the media eating out of his hand, win or lose.

I’m not a big fan of that 90 lb man but that was a nice little dig.

I don't have a problem with any of these answers.

I thought this was hyperbole at first, but Pruitt is actually an honest to God ignorant hick. Like, the man probably struggles with reading. He is one of the least polished, most tone-deaf millionaires I've ever seen. He will not be a head coach for long.

You can be unpolished when you're winning. When you're losing, it hastens the decline and fall. Muschamp got years of time and millions of dollars that he never would have received if he acted like Pruitt.
