Since media days and their stupid questions are upcoming for these next 3 days...why not. My favorite came from Stephen A. Smith's retort to Skip Bayless' comment about Alabama's "big boys" (2015 D-line) being slow in the national championship game that year and just in general. He said:

"They're slow, but they're big; and when they hit you, it's painful."

Idk why, but I've always got a kick out of that. Must've been the way he said it and who he said it to.

The 2002 Pat Dye quote about Georgia not being "man enough to whip Alabama" right before they beat Alabama was pretty good after the fact.

"I don't know, we haven't played Alabama yet." – Vince Lombardi after being asked what it felt like to be the greatest football team in the world just after winning the '67 Super Bowl.

-Bear Bryant

He was being kind.

Coach Bryant was 9-1 against LSU in Tiger Stadium.

"Bear Bryant seemed to own the Tigers and was not the least bit intimidated by Tiger Stadium. He had a pre-game ritual that would enrage Tiger fans and calm his players. Bryant would slowly walk towards the northwest corner of the field where the LSU students sat. His players dressed in suit and ties would then walk around the field while Bryant ambled on over to the left hash mark around the 10-yard line. The Bear, completely composed, would have a nonchalant conversation with a security guard or a member of his staff while the LSU fans were screaming and yelling all sorts of things at him. After about 10 minutes, Bryant would wave to the LSU students which prompted further abusive language and a chorus of loud boos. When leaving the field amidst the yelling and screaming, Bryant would walk right by Mike’s cage, the live tiger mascot. The purpose of this ritual was to show the team that playing at Tiger Stadium in front of 80,000 plus screaming, rabid fans was really not an issue. Bryant’s record against LSU in Baton Rouge proves the point."

Thats a lot of extra stuff he had to do to show he wasn't scared.

Maybe so...but it damn sure worked!

There was a story floating around Tuscaloosa for years that Coach Bryant once called Coach Cholly Mac and asked him if if Alabama could borrow Tiger Stadium for some of their home games when LSU wasn't using it.

Just pick one of the many about Kyle. Here is one from Saban.

quote:

“You talk about loud,” he said during his Thursday night radio show. “You talk about affecting the game. I mean, their fans really did affect the game, and it says a lot about our players to keep their poise and focus.”

Saban said College Station was unique.

“You know, this is the first place we’ve played for a long, long time, that we never got booed when we came out,” he said. “First place. I’m telling ya. It’s a really nice facility. They had 105,000 people. And they cheered their tail off for their team. And they made it hard for us to play.”

The coach even threw a slight jab at the folks in Tuscaloosa.

“I hope our fans can hear this,” he said, “because this is the kind of place we should be.”

One of my favorites comes from Brian Kelly at halftime of the 2012 National Championship game:

quote:

ESPN's sideline reporter, Heather Cox, had a gem of a question for Kelly as he came off the field: "Where do the fixes need to come in the second half?"

Kelly's response? Well, maybe if Alabama forgets about coming back out of the locker room…

"Uh, maybe Alabama doesn't come back in the second half," Kelly said. "It's all Alabama. We can't tackle them right now and… who knows why. You know, they're big and physical. I guess I do know why. It's just that our guys have not tackled the way they have all year.

"I'll always regret leaving Baton Rouge. We had such a great thing going and the people are the greatest on Earth. If I ever make it to the Hall of Fame, I'd want to be known first and foremost as the coach of the LSU Tigers."

Really? Saban's never lost in College Station (2-0). Alabama deals with that type enthusiasm everywhere they go....everybody's Super Bowl. Like every smart coach, he's gonna compliment you while he's kicking your arse.
