If Bert hadn't been a drunk he'd would have done great at Arkansas. What we did not know when we hired him is that he was out of control in that regard. As odd as it sounds... the best thing to ever happen to Bert was to get fired from Arkansas and have to dry out.

Didn’t want him hired, he was a drunk at Wisconsin. And they wanted him gone for that and his losing inexplicably.

He's a great Big 10 coach. There's no arguing it. The weekly grind of the SEC didn't work though.

Illinois is the perfect gig for him to position for the Iowa job. No expectation of winning the big game and he can beat up on the schools that don't take football seriously.
