The thing is, it took 40 years for Saban to come along and be in Bear’s.

Only 25 years, but your grasp of reality appears tenuous.

My point is guys like Bear and Saban don’t grow on trees and Brian Kelly is definitely not in their league. But while we waited for the next Bear to come along, their were many, many men who distinguished themselves. Kelly won’t be the next Saban, but he no doubt can be the next Dabo, Urban or Switzer.

Okay but what happens when you consider reality and not make-believe?

Really Fun Fact:

Former ND Head Coaches to coach at another school after their tenure with ND are a combined 52-123 since 1997, 3/3 coaches. Not a single success story.

Hmmmm, I wonder what the caveat could be here...

Most of those coaches were fired though.

Then it’s still Kelly when you consider an entire career. O has a title, Kirby doesn’t. O has a title, Gus doesn’t. O has a title, Ryan Day doesn’t. O has a title Lincoln doesn’t,. O has a title, Harbaugh doesn’t. O has as many titles as Spurrier and Jimbo. Kelly has had a better career than Jimbo. If you can’t admit that you are lying to yourself.

Fun Fact: all of those previous guys were FIRED from note dame or retired. Kelly is the first to quit on his on accord for another school in 100 years. This ain’t Bob Davey at New Mexico State, bro. Hola

My point is when was the last time the SEC hired away a coach from a non-SEC school with Kelly’s level of overall achievement?

Yes let's just keep ignoring the $15 million a year part of the equation

However you feel about him, the one thing that you absolutely have to give him credit for is recruiting as he did at ND.

Given the academic requirements and I think he graduates something like over 95% of his guys -- that's hella impressive.

So, everything will come down to his recruiting ability at LSU. Given he's not going to be hamstrung by academic requirements, he might be a total beast. He seems like he's a good egg as far as X's and O's. I doubt he'll be bringing snatch to practices, either.

I'm sure he'll lock down the Catholic schools in NOLA, but I'm not sure what extra that will grant. Definitely seems more like a legitimate coach than a Frat Bro coach.

Fired or not the average win % plummeted almost 30 points. It’s hard to fail at ND, even lawless under certain weather conditions. Kelly will be challenged at LSU to produce results that Les did
