explain to me why the Grove is as great as people make it out to be

Never been but here's all that I've heard:
You are arse cheek to arse cheek with everyone in it
Chandeliers, tablecloths, candelabras, silverware
No open flames allowed in tailgates
Hours d'oeuvres, finger sandwiches, and premade food only
Alcohol can only be consumed in a cup
From the outside looking in this is the lamest shite I've ever seen.

Trust when I say we’ll fine if you choose not to show up to the Grove. There’s nothing worse than some tight-assed opposing fan showing up to the Grove with some shitty preconceived narrative and a “ok, now prove it to me” attitude.
How fricking difficult is it to just show up ready to enjoy a game day tailgate?

Color me shocked that an Ole Miss fan can't read. I said "explain to me" but nah, typical Ole Piss with their nose so high in the air.

I've been.
You can have fun if you want to, and depending on your goals/definition of fun. It's like a big frat party. Cheap food, lots of booze/drunks.
It's never been special from my perspective. I don't find it great, and certainly not better than anywhere else I've tailgated in the SEC.
Personally, I like LSUs scene the best. Yeah, you have some drunk morons, but we all have those. The food is top notch at LSU, and everyone wants you to eat their cooking. As someone who has never been a big drinker, tailgates like that, where you eat good food and actually interact with people, are more my speed.
I'm sure the Grove is great if your goal is getting completely sloshed and having a cheap hookup.

Sport coats & dixie cups. Pop-up tents and white table cloths. Aluminum foil pans with cheap fried chicken tenders. Chandeliers and folding chairs.
I've been. The Ole Miss fans and media try to make it sound nicer than it is. I'd rather go party with good people in t-shirts with a big black pot and a cheap ice chest full of beer than try to sit around in khaki's and a sport coat trying to lug around a heavy arse Yeti ice chest to make myself feel like I'm better than others.

I'll find out next weekend. Taking my first trip to another SEC school for the game.

No dumbass I very much do understand your OP. My point absolutely remains…..
If your idiotic self could properly comprehend, you would see that I did reference your “explain to me”. The irony in your “nose so high in the air” comment is fricking rich coming from an air-boat driving, nutria eater doing their every-other-year “our tailgating is so far superior to yours” schtick.
If you genuinely are curious as to how to enjoy yourself while visiting the Grover for the first time, you’re more than welcome to ask for advice. And we’re more than happy to help. But if you start a thread shitting on our tailgating, then I’m going to rightfully respond by shitting on you.

Yeah there’s plenty of that as well. Just go outside of the actual Grove, itself.

I never knew this. This is disappointing.

Only inside the actual grove boundaries. Plenty of tailgates with open flames. My tailgating crew deep fried a turkey for the egg bowl one year.

It's vastly overrated like everything else at Ole Miss, Oxford is a cool town though..

I’ve been to the Grove, Bama, Ga, Arky, lsu, and mizzou. Hope to hit Tenner in October.
The grove is fine, it’s just been too built up. It’s fun, but prepare to be underwhelmed. Just enjoy it. It’s an institution.
LSU is the best in terms of food and booze. Hospitality is mixed but pretty good. A lot of folks are flat out too drunk to act like a human, but that’s their choice.
Arky is fun, but not a big scene at all. More like a bunch of church picnics with beer. Good no-nonsense tailgate scene.
A&M’s is huge. One of the better bbq tailgate scenes you’ll find anywhere. Good hospitality to visitors.
Mizzouri…. Nothing really to report here.

Or you can just go read the other 20 post talking about it.
Some people like it, some don't.
I no longer enjoy large crowds, so I can take it or leave it. But from about 5 years old to 30 ish it was a blast.
The open flame rule is because the smoke stays under the big oaks and it would just be a layer of grill smoke.
Beer in a cup is dumb, but so is bitching about it.
As another poster said, go in with a open mind and you may enjoy it, or don't. There are plenty of bars on the square you can pregame at before walking over to the stadium.

I asked about THE GROVE specifically. Not once did I mention anything about the rest of Ole Miss and its tailgating experience outside of that.
