It seems like because LSU fans are so disgusted with the four years of Lee/JJ, there are some wild expectations for Mettenberger.

So, would an AJ McCarron type season be acceptable? I mean obviously it helps to play really well in the BCS game, but even taking that out of the equation would McCarron's regular season be acceptable? 66% completion rate, 2,400 yards, 16 TD's, 5 Ints. Some iffy moments but no horrible performances?

Or are you expecting more?

Or just anything but JJ?

The expectations are already higher than Cam Newton could live up to.

I'm just waiting on the moment when he has a bad game to see how the LSU fans react.

Perfect season IMO. If we have the running game that both our teams had this year, we don't need to throw all over the place. LSU and Bama blew teams out of the water by playing great defense and keeping the ball on offense, not the score as fast as you can cause your defense sucks ala Oregon and Arky.

ETA: but really, any improvement over JJ and we go 14-0.

My expectations are not very high. I expect us to run the same offense that we did this year. I just hope we're more efficient in the passing game.

All LSU has needed for it's last two Championships is a Mediocre QB. Someone like McCarron would be fine.

Matt Flynn wasn't Dynamite in 2007 but we won.
McElroy only completed 6 PASSES for 59 yds against Texas and Bama won in 2009.

SEC QB's don't need ot be Super Special, just SMART with a decent arm.

I would expect him to be better than Mccarron. Thats not exactly a high threshhold.

If things remain the same I think we (most LSU fans) will start realizing what the "real problem" is. Finally.

Dear god. Prayers won't be enough to save that kid.

I'm willing to bet Gunner is freaked the hell out right now. He wanted to go somewhere were the expectations would be lower. IE the commitment to Indiana.

Good luch at LSU with that. You're going to get eaten alive.

I think he has the ability to do what lee did through the first eight games. He may make more mistakes but I think gashes the ability to make more big plays at the same time. If he can do that lsu should have another good year

Seeing as how he was competing with Aaron Murray for the starting job there, I'm expecting something pretty good. Our expectations really aren't that high, just that much higher than our expectations from Jefferson and Lee.

Mett is a TOTALLY different animal than McCarron. Mett is more of a gunslinger/free spirit guy.
He will take a LOT of chances.
What I expect is a LOT more deep balls.
Comapred to Mccarron I would expect MANY more td's and with that likely more INT's.
He will be the first qb LSU has had since 07 who can make all the throws and has good mobility.
That said, we all know what the SEC offers 1st year qb's.
And yes, LSU fans are mostly just happy we don't have this 4 year qb drama anymore, because both JJ and Lee were so limitedin their own ways.

JUNIOR COLLEGE
Started all 12 games at Butler, throwing for 2,678 yards and 32 touchdowns with only four interceptions ... Connected on 176-of-299 passes for a 58.9 completion percentage ... Rated as the top-ranked junior college quarterback for the 2011 class by multiple recruiting services ...

This is what he did at Butler I could live with these numbers

For one thing, the arm strengths of the two are incomparable.
