I’m not thrilled with Accuweather and looking for something better (but still free)

When did the word “versus” turn into the word “verse”?
Posted by PenguinNinja on 4/26/25 at 10:56 pm
I have never heard this until like 5 yrs ago and now it seems to be becoming more prevalent.
Recognize kids: it’s “vs” with an S on the end!

Give me your best crawfish boiling tips
Posted by PenguinNinja on 4/26/25 at 6:56 am
How long do you keep the burner going after you put the crawfish in the pot?
How long do you let it soak?
Do you add anything to the boil to make them easier to peel - like butter, for instance?
Do you add ice to the water while they’re soaking to prevent overcooking?
Gotta boil for some Texans later and it’s been a few years so trying to refresh my memory.

What are the peak seasons of IASIP?

I love this show but haven’t watched it consistently. I’d like to jump in and watch some, but there are so many seasons I don’t know where to start to get maximum quality for my time.
I don’t have the time / fortitude to start at Season 1 and trudge through the whole thing…too busy for now.

It’s good for your credit score to carry some balances and show you are a responsible borrower. In creditors eyes, it’s much better to have years of responsible borrowing as opposed to never having borrowed anything.
This is true.
But frick this and frick banks for this (and other things).
This is why it’s so freeing to never need any credit if you can get there. Your credit score doesn’t really matter much at all.
Is it time to weed and feed yet?

Considering a trip home for my fix…
How / where do I buy a laptop these days?
Posted by PenguinNinja on 2/24/25 at 8:07 pm
I’m looking for something simple and reliable. Primarily for home use - internet surfing, emails, Microsoft Office stuff, watching Netflix, managing family pics / videos, etc. Nothing too fancy.
It’s been almost a decade since I last bought a laptop and a lot has changed so I don’t know where to start and what to consider. All I do know is that I’m a Windows guy (tried a MacBook and couldn’t ever get used to the OS differences since I use Windows at work every day).
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad for work and it’s great…would love something like that.
Where do I start? I think I bought my last one at BestBuy…I assume online is the way to go these days? What are some good options or hints to look for when shopping?

So we go back to 2019 rules. Deal?
Did Judkins leave OleMiss because he lost a running back battle and wanted playing time?

This is a fair take even though Buckeyes want to be all “stop living in the past”.
My wife and I talked about this yesterday. We were die hard CFB fans from HS until about 3-4 years ago, and now i can’t be bothered to muster up a single frick to give. Do I want my team to win? Sure. But the highs aren’t near as high as they used to be, nor are the lows as low when they win or lose.
What we loved about CFB was the connection between the players and the fans by way of the love of the school and associated sports teams. You never got this in the pros because it is a job and the players play where they’re signed vs where they want to be (for the most part). That is all but gone. OSU won with a QB who played at KSU and a RB who played at Ole Miss…just last year. They don’t GAF about OSU.
I know this applies to every team, so I’m not taking anything away from OSU for winning by the rules in place. I’m just explaining why I, my wife, many of my friends, and tons of others are quickly losing interest as the CFB pagentry erodes with the Wild West transfer portal. You can pay players without this nonsense. You can’t even keep up with what players are on what teams anymore.
The rich getting richer is not something that will generate long-term interest. Sorry.

My blood pressure is very hereditary. Same for the cholesterol…at least to a large extent.
Mid-40s Male Health Tests?
Posted by PenguinNinja on 1/13/25 at 1:13 pm
I’ll be 43 this year. I’m pretty good health - I jog ~15-35miles a week at a sub 8min/mi pace and have just restarted lifting weights 3 days a week.
I have high blood pressure that I control well with diet and meds, and high cholesterol that I’ve been on statins to control for about a year (not sure if I’ll continue taking it).
I want to get a holistic analysis of my general health from a nutrition / fitness perspective as a baseline for improving my performance, but also to identify any issues I can address with diet or supplements. I’m thinking something that tests free testosterone, cortisol, and many of the other bro-science type things that wouldn’t get tested as part of a normal physical blood screening…including hormones.
What does the board recommend I do? What tests should I take and how/where should I get them? How much should I expect to spend to get these tests?
TIA

No doubt. I’m sure it sucks arse for them. I’m just struggling to muster any fricks to give. I think the majority of these people believe they are superior to the majority of us. Maybe that’s it…

How many “regular folks” live in the Pacific Palisades or Malibu? This is some of the most expensive real estate on the planet.

I mean, I can feel bad at a human level (I’m sure Paris Hilton is sad), and I don’t think they “deserve it”, but I’m struggling to not feel like it’s justice that some of these folks have been dished out a bit of struggle in their life. I feel like a POS, but I’m being honest.

…losing their homes to fires?
I feel evil, but I can’t seem to get too upset about it.
Maybe it’s jealously because I don’t get to live in Malibu, maybe it’s because is CA liberals, maybe it’s because I despise the LA “look at me” culture…I don’t know.
Maybe it’s because I doubt any of these folks blinked an eye when Harvey flooded Houston or Katrina devastated NOLA or Laura mowed over Lake Charles and SW LA.
I am feeling guilty because I should be sympathetic, but I can’t seem to muster any sympathy.
Is that just me?

Would you use Jack Miller’s as the BBQ sauce on oven-cooked pork ribs?
Posted by PenguinNinja on 1/4/25 at 2:10 pm
First timer here trying to figure out how to cook. Ribs are in the oven and this is the only BBQ sauce in the house.
Can I use this or do I need to run to the store?
