More proof that greedy bastards have ruined college football. Kept squeezing fans until they had enough now people have quit going. Now it’s going back the other way and they are begging us to come back.
Exactly, and lowering the price isn't going to get people back in the stands either. People are creatures of habit. They kept jacking the price up until people in the habit of attending every year stopped going. Now they have developed a new habit of backyard tailgating and watching on 80" tv's. It's not even about the money anymore. Once fans felt unwelcome, they will never forget that.
When I graduated from Bama, there was a 15 year waitlist for season tickets and zero effort was put into engaging the mid 20's to mid 30's alumni who didn't have the deep pockets the 60 year olds have. It sounds like a great problem for the university except that it created an entire generation of alumni who don't go to games, and never will again, even when tickets are available.

There is a lot to be said for going to the game. But for the money you would spend to go in person (with Wife) you could have a couple of friends and family over and put on a class A throw down at the comfort of your house. I’m at the age this is the reason we stay at home.
Yeah. I'm 81 so probably ahead of you but I quit going regularly about 2018. I like to watch in isolation with peace and quiet and drink. I go back to actually having seen Cannon play in person and it just gets hard to top all the great games I've seen since.
Last year I went to the ULL vs UT game in Austin. Too damned hot sitting in the sun and I told my grandson this is it. I'm staying home from here on out.

Mother started taking me to home games in the 60’s when Leroy Jordan was playing. Went to home games until the end of Stalling. Got to be too much of a hassle. I miss going. But not enough to go back.

You have to know your market, though.
Costco won’t do it for some teams.
Tennessee baseball will have to put theirs in a woodworking shoppe where you can buy finisher, too.

I understand this tactic for many many many, hell, most college football teams. But when I see a school like Florida do this, it is really sad. Sad for Florida. SO pathetic.
I do agree with what most people in this thread are saying though.
I myself only have interest in going to games to simply indoctrinate my own child. Sort of in the vein of I'm going to Make You Go Fishing With Me, trying to pass down traditions even if those traditions are sadly becoming outdated.
Hot take- the worst part of the fan experience in the stadium are the commercial breaks. I remember before the SEC Network existed, and your team's games weren't on any major network because you were playing a cupcake, only on pay per view, you could go to the game it's all under 2 hours. The length of the game is ridiculous now, even for the cupcake games. Even if the cupcake game ticket is free, by the time you pay for parking, travel to and from, your own imbibements in town before and after, it's still not a "cheap" experience, and the experience continues to get better and better at home. I can do my own replays if I want to see something again, I don't need the network to do it for me. My own bathroom. I can get shitfaced, and I don't have to drive, or walk. I can eat BBQ or sushi or whatever in the hell I want.
UGA hasn't gone down this sad path yet, selling tickets at Walmart, but I can see how eventually this will be a thing.

The Braves had it as well before they moved to the new stadium.
There are 81 home MLB games a year. 81 x 41,000 (roughly the average MLB stadium size) = 3,321,000
Jordan Hare looks like it is the median for SEC stadiums so that capacity x 7 home games is 612,157, and that is not factoring in student and band seating or the away team's allotment.
An SEC team shouldn't be having to use Costco to sell tickets, even if it is to an 9 AM kick off vs. New Jersey State Tech at Camden.

Yeah. I miss those season openers against Rice every year when Rice was actually a very good program. We always faced you or Baylor or TCU in other non-conference games. We traded that for gimme a win meaningless games that are as bad as NFL preseason.
I realize times change but when you see places like Florida selling at Costco the AD's must really be worried.
These two superconferences will either make it very interesting or kill it all for all.

I can get tics to Bama’s first three games on Ticketmaster for $21, $13, and $32 respectively.

ITT people bragging about buying crappy electronics at Costco. You aren't getting high quality tech there, stop posting about it.

Electronics are a depreciating asset.

Not anytime soon. Georgia is selling out every week. Has been for years and I expect the same will happen this year too. UGA fans are paying big bucks too. Not only are the tickets expensive, the contribution required to secure your right to buy these season tickets is very pricey
