It was certainly a critical misplay in the most crucial moment of the season, but Let’s not forget that the 9th started with a leadoff walk. What did you expect?... leadoff Walk is asking for trouble

Even worse, I believe the walk was to the 8-hole hitter?

The melt-down when Arkansas wins today is going to be hilarious. The after-effects of Arkansas' championship will be felt on this board for months.

You can "what if" all the way back to the first inning.
Fact is Arkansas was handed a pop foul to win the title, and they misplayed it.

Yet the pitcher still kept them in position to win it by catching a pop up in foul territory.

Walks happen. I blame the right fielder for getting complacent.

Not really. I think most here are rooting for Arkansas. I don’t want to see a pedo win.

He wanted to mention that because Bertman used to say it all the time. It's a brag that he remembers something a coach said ie he knows baseball so well.

OP ain't wrong. Whenever a lead off walk occurs, especially to the bottom of the order, it's never ever a good thing.

Not sure what the stats are in college, but pretty sure everyone's HS coach used the same "a lead off walk scores 75% of the time" stat

While the leadoff walk was a potentially bad sign of things to come, it doesn’t excuse the RF for not calling off everyone else. The OF is always in control of balls outside of the infield. While the ball was in whats determined as no mana land, on that play he didnt do his job by taking control of the situation.

I hate a lead off walk as much as the next guy but I would question your stat. Only 70% of lead off doubles score so a lead off walk would have to be less frequent than that.

Well, until someone realizes that hey... it's almost football season. Which will happen about 23 seconds after the last out of the game.

Outfielder had the best angle. Doesn't matter. We are going to pound them.

Yes, he had the best angle.

But he didn't have an overwhelming need to be the hero.

Agreed. That was Cole's ball and he should've called Shaddy off. Instead Cole took one glance down at Shaddy and slowed up. Should've called him off so loud that ESPN would of had to censor it when they showed the replay for the next month.

I watched the replay from a different angle. The rf looked down saw the 1stbaseman under the ball and the 2nd baseman flying in. The 2nd baseman hit the 1st baseman as he was over running the ball and the 1st baseman stepped up a little natural response to let whoever was behind him make the play.
1st baseman would have made that play easy. blame is on the 2nd baseman.

I still think Hogs bring it home today.
