Realistically, they will have some down years of course. They can’t sustain their recent success for ever. However, any downturn they have won’t last long because they’re bama.

I copied the following quote from a poster on a Bama msg board.

quote:

Actually, a slide into mediocrity would be the exception not the rule for the Bama program. Since 1923 Bama has had 67 years under 5 different 80+% coaches (The rest of the SEC has a combined 3 such (at least 6 years) coaches: Neyland, Spurrier and Meyer. AU has 1 who barely made it over 70%), the other 28 years, 10 of which were crippled by a catastrophic probation that won't be repeated, Bama was still 50 games over .500 and won 3 SEC titles (more than UK, Vandy, MSU, Ark, USCe, A&M, Mo have combined in their history. Almost half of what AU has in its 85 year SEC history). So, Bama is 250% more likely to enter another NC period than it is to enter just an SECC period.

To assume anything is folly, especially a repeat of the past 10 years. In fact, Saban himself might not be able to produce that again. Though circumstances are not the same now as they have been the last 95 years, in some ways they are worse in others they are better, the likelihood of Bama being elite (1 or 2 NC in 10 years) is far greater than otherwise. Bama has won NCs in 7 of the past 10 decades (I don't count '41). They have won at least 1 SECC in all 9 decades of its existence. Alabama has been very consistent - '97-06 were so bad primarily because of the catastrophic sanctions which will not be repeated. Even then Bama had 3 10 wins seasons and one SEC title.

As far as Saban appointing a successor - I hope not. Input yes, decision no. That should be the AD's job. If Saban wanted to push for it sure, he deserves it, but he's not that type anyway. Hope it's not a Saban disciple unless he is the best coach available. Dabo probably won't come, at least not the first time. Maybe Pruitt, maybe Tosh, maybe... Who knows what the state of the game will be and who will be desirable and available when Saban retires. IMO, it will be 5-10 years.

I feel for the coach that comes after Nick Saben, no matter who that may be.

Saban is tGOAT. This success will NOT be sustained at its current level. I don’t see some huge falloff though. But 9–3/8-4 seasons will occur once again.

The talent is there. But Saban’s attention to detail is what sets him apart. It can’t be replicated, regardless of talent.

Honestly I don't know who you are buddy. I follow a few USC fans on here... you aren't one of them.

I'm sorry but you are one of a several thousand people on here to me. I thought your original post was flawed and responded to it. That having been done I'll go back to ignoring you and not knowing or caring who the frick you are.

That might happen. Bobby bowden had his hand in the air after bryant screaming "pick me pick me"!! And they wouldn't do it.

You had to be one of bear's boys.

Thanks.

It’s the best it’ll ever get for your program so enjoy it while it lasts.

All "Dynastys" end. Just depends on who takes over the NCAA how fast it crumbles. It's wasnt that long ago Bama was winning 7 and 8 games a year. Bama has even looked average at times, under Saban, with all the 5*s. Once the talent drops back off they will be back in the middle of the sec most years.

Stupid comments like that undermine any reasonable observations you might actually have some day, considering Alabama has won more SEC titles than any other team in the conference, won more games, been in the title game more than any team in the west, won more national title than any SEC team, and on and on.

Bama will slip when Saban leaves ... that's just the law of nature in college football.

If they do hire Dabo, which I seriously doubt they will unless Dabo is slipping at Clemson when the time comes and he pulls a Jimbo .... then Dabo will not be as successful at Bama as Saban.

IMHO you do not want to be the HC that replaces Saban.

It all depends on who replaces him and if he walks away when the team is still on top .

Without a doubt they will take huge step back regardless of hire.

you've had some dumb posts before but this takes the cake.

maybe when Saban leaves they should just not hire a new HC and let that dynasty run itself.

There's no reason for Bama (much like USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, and a few other programs) to not be a national power unless they shoot themselves in the foot. Bama's good ol boy administrations in the past really liked shooting themselves in the foot. Pretty much all of those guys are out of the way. Hopefully the same mistakes won't be made in the future.

Saban going to Alabama when he did was the perfect storm and the perfect fit. Alabama will take a step or three back when he retires and I don't think we will see any program replicate what he has accomplished in Tuscaloosa for many years, if ever. Saban is a unique & once in a generation or two talent. We are witnessing greatness.

Don't put it past Dooley taking the mizzou oc gig to set himself up for the saban replacement gig. If he does well as an OC he'll have a solid resume experience wise.

Maybe to replace o if that comes up in around 3 seasons IF he is doing it on his own, and Dooley to mizzou isnt a closed door hand shake agreement to be seriously looked at when bama comes up.

To the OPs question...bama can definitely fumble post-saban harder than we saw at UT. Talent is helpful, but rest is hard to replicate. Why it wouldnt surprise me if bama is setting post-saban pieces already.
