Even if Saban retires, will Bama ever slow down?

Saban has built up such a reserve of elite players, coaches and facilities that I wonder now if his eventual departure would even make a difference.

I can't see anything undoing the Alabama dynasty even in the future. Maybe if Georgia becomes just as good and the east rises.

Maybe.

But why would Bama frick it up? They literally should just let him handpick his own successor.

They’ll likely remain in football’s upper echelon for years to come.
But yeah, they’ll slow down.

Didn’t he suggest LSU replace him with Houston Nutt? There aren’t any sure things when you hire a new coach. Some will be scared off by replacing a legend. A good yet tough situation to step into. Obviously if a guy is afraid of a challenge you wouldn’t want him anyway, but to assume someone will be able to sustain what he’s done is naive. A good chance the next coach can come in and win a championship with what’s left, but after that really is a crapshoot.

Bama will always field a great team unless there are sanctions. 5 out of 9, probably not. Will they still be a national player, yes.

Saban is the glue. Once he's gone, much of that will come apart. Attrition will spike. It's unavoidable, especially with Auburn and Georgia so close. When Saban left LSU, Miles didn't have to deal with nearly as much recruiting competition in his backyard.

Auburn is already beating saban, so we'll hold it down while Bama heads back to the Mike Price Era.

He is the most successful coach of all time. Period. They will take a step back, that’s just how it goes when moving on from a GOAT, but Bama has the resources and backing to support the next guy. They’ll still be elite, but not to the degree they are right now.

Stallings or Bryant? Or average coaches like Dubose or Curry that still win conference titles? Bad coaches like Shula or Fran that still win 10 games?

Let me do some editing and then we can try this again.

Bear Bryant has built up such a reserve of elite players, coaches, and facilities that I wonder now if his eventual retirement (and death) would even make a difference.

I can't see anything undoing the Alabama dynasty even in the future. Maybe if that Hershel Walker kid at Georgia pans out.

Maybe.

Or, Blaik has built up such a reserve of elite players, coaches, and facilities at Army... John Wooden has built up such a reserve of elite players, coaches, and facilities at UCLA... John McDonnell has built up such a reserve of elite players, coaches, and facilities at Arkansas for their track program...

Maybe Bama gets lucky and the guy they hire to replace The Guy does well enough to win another national title or two.

Maybe.

Fran, Curry, Perkins, Shula and Dubose. Might get their 10 win seasons, but were not consistant. I think Bowden, TT and Chizik all had undefeated seasons.
