What?. Kiffin is already under contract with Ole Miss through 2031. How can Ole Miss suspend him because he refuses to sign an extension?

I’m not gonna defend Tenner a whole bunch in here but be honest. It’s not as easy winning at Tennessee as it should be at Bama or at SoCal. In state resources are a huge advantage. Or at least they were when Lane was OC at Bama and head coach at USCw. Tenner doesn’t necessarily have that luxury
I agree, I was just giving him some shite

Although I don't know what he's talking about leaving Bama before reaching the pinnacle, he won a natty as OC there in 2015, and left before the one in 2016. So he "reached the pinnacle" once as an OC there, in addition to doing it twice with Carroll years earlier.

I think the idea is that LSU and Florida have a higher ceiling than OM. Is that true in this era? Not sure.

I view it like the old NCAA games where each team had a star rating in terms of prestige. I think LSU, despite the recent shitshow, is still a top level gig. I don’t see that with OM.

I don't get why it would be bad for him to entertain or even accept another job offer before the season is over. Dan Lanning accepted the HC position at Oregon before competing in the playoffs with UGA. He stuck around until after the playoffs before starting his new gig.
It's not. I understand why Ole Miss fans would be upset, they'd be losing a coach who has had success there, but not sure why fans of other teams are so up in arms about it. This type of stuff happens all the time, but because Lane is a polarizing personality it seems to bring out the emotions in people more than if it were someone else.

This is dumb. Why is him entertaining other jobs worse than every other coach doing it?

So if you wait until after the season then you've missed signing day and the only portal window. You're basically giving up in your first season and you're stuck with the leftovers on your new roster.

I'd be pissed if I was an Ole Miss fan, but what else is a coach supposed to do?

Ole Miss shouldn't let Lane coach the playoff if he is leaving. Especially after this clown show. If I was them I might even sit him for the Miss State game but they probably will let him coach that game.

It's too soon to say. Some might define this era as starting post-covid since that is when NIL became really normalized, but we've only had one 12 team playoff season, so is that another new era?

I think regardless of how you definite it, so far either blue blood programs (Ohio State, Michigan) or New Blood powerhouse programs (UGA) have won it all.

Last year, for all the talk of playoff expansion, the final four teams were 3 blue bloods and Penn State which is a top tier program in its own right and some would consider a blue blood.

It will be interesting to see how far teams like IU will go and who the final four will be this year.

So you’re suggesting a school suspend the most successful coach they’ve ever had, because he may leave.

Did you know that Kiffin is tied for the 15th longest tenured coach in the Power 4? It’s not like he’s been job hopping in recent years.

I'm just trying to help you but if you dont want it, I get it. It isn't like you were smart enough to graduate from Ole Miss.

Pinnacle being the chance to take over at Alabama after Saban. Not saying it was a sure thing but he bowed out with his behavior.

I mean fwiw insiders reported on this and there's pics from outside the fence at the airport of the plane so its not like hes flaunting it publicly. Obviously it'll get out but hes not exactly rubbing anyone's noses in the better jobs out there showing interest in him.

My degree from OM got me into med school, and my daughter is about to get as degree from Ole Miss in May and she'll be going to med school next August.

Maybe if there were signs that Saban was planning on hanging it up soon, I would agree. At that time it seemed like Saban would be there forever and he ended up coaching 6 more seasons after that year.

I wouldn't say your argument is totally inaccurate but it is a bit of a stretch in some regards. It did seem like Lane burned bridges with how he left so in that regard you're correct.

It would seem that the only people having a melt down over this 'clown show' are Florida/LSU fans. Apparently the Ole Miss team are pretty chill from their recent media interviews.

They appeared to be focus and enjoying their off week, talking about watching college football this Saturday, shooting at the range, and deer hunting... They address the coaching situation, but not talking like a team that's about to lose their coach.

If Lane is leaving after all that mess you really want him coaching in the playoff?
