This is why I expect LSU fans to know little about a true rivalry.

LSU has no rival of the kind that Auburn has in Alabama or that Michigan has in Ohio State, that Clemson has in South Carolina. There was a time when it was Ole Miss, but those days have gone with the same wind that blew the Rebels away and returned them as the Black Bears.

That said, if your knowledge doesn't extend beyond your personal experience, you are far more limited than you should be.

I don't think our rivalry with UA is anywhere near the best in America. In fact I think it is probably close to the worse. If they would start a poll that asked which rivalry would most likely cause someone to get shot or cut then the Iron Bowl wins hands down.

Didn't read every page, but this would make a good T-shirt for both schools.

I can understand arguments that people would have Bama-Auburn over OSU-Michigan, but some of the comments about the OSU-Michigan rivalry are ridiculous.

I agree with both of those rivalries being on the same level. I think the Boston-New York one is similar. I don't think the Boston-LA one is like that. They're on different coasts and they're only really meaningful when both teams are good. They went 20 years without playing a meaningful game. When you live next to your rival you hear about it when you suck, when you live across the country... oh well.

It's good to see that folks didn't let their regional affiliations get in the way of objectivity.

If you look at New England, they said that the Boston-Yankees matchup was bigger than the Lakers. The Lakers only made it up the list because Cali is huge. The state of Mass picked the Yankees over the Lakers as their biggest rival.

Boston-LA?
Has been a huge rivalry for a long freaking time.

yeah, but they don't have to tolerate each other at all,
like the others on this list. I seriously doubt that LA and Boston natives have much of a problem with each other.

I don't disagree, but there is no reason to pretend its not a great sports rivalry just because the fans are geographically separated and don't have the same level of hate as us crazy college football fans.

The die hard fans do, but the massess don't I'm sure.

Red Sox/Yankees isn't as intense anymore. Iron Bowl should be #1. Nobody loves football like the South, and nobody can hate like Southern football fans.

I'd put OSU and Michigan ahead of the Iron Bowl simply because it generally has more on the line, IMO. Not really a shot at Alabama or Auburn, it's more a shot at the Big 10.

There is no rivalry in all of sports that even touches AU/Bama. None even come close or are even in the same realm or anything else if you consider the key ingredients of a rivalry to be: passion, intensity, and hatred.

The AU/Bama rivalry means more, is year round and dominates everyday life more than any rivalry in sports in the United States for any two fanbases. Period.

There are some soccer fans out there that may kill you for saying that.

Maybe is more invovled in every day life, but I'm still disagree that it necessarily means more than some other rivalries.

such a joke, overrated rivalry. I don't get it, they encounter each one day a year and then Michigan fans go back to Michigan and OSU fans go back to Ohio. They don't experience a full fledge rivalry year round living next door to the enemy. As an Alabama fan I hate Tennessee and love beating them, but to compare it to Auburn is a joke because I rarely interact with Tennessee fans.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??????

18 national championships between them. Not to mention 77 Big Ten Conference championships and 1715 wins with BOTH teams being in the top 3 all time in terms of winning percentage and you don't think that's a rivalry?

LOL Laughable, Michigan/OSU is THE definition of a rivalry.

Actually just meant US sports as that I do not know enough about international soccer.

Depends on how you define rivalry.

Do you by what is at stake (dumb).

or

Passion, intensity, and hatred (more what makes a rivalry IMO).

I was just joking around, to be honest. That being said, the hatred of sharing the same state isn't the same as fighting multiple world wars against each other. I'll give England-Germany the nod.

Maybe in terms of arguing with your neighbors, but it can't match the OSU/Michigan rivalry in terms of how often it has determined the conference championship for a long period of time. Unfortunately, the idiocy of putting those teams in separate divisions may hurt that a bit.
