To say that going by what's at stake is dumb is ridiculous.

A rivalry needs passion, intensity, and hatred. It's better when you have that and a lot at stake, too.

Just having a lot at stake does not equal rivalry.

Hatred, passion, and intensity between fanbases does.

Therefore I think a rivalry is more about feelings between the rivals and what is at stake is an added bonus or not.

The AU/Bama rivalry is incredibly intense and really barely even loses any intensity at all when nothing is at stake at all.

Name another rivalry that does not drop off significantly if nothing is at stake.

Passion, intensity, and hatred (more what makes a rivalry IMO).

BOth, and OSU/UM has that. Think Rich Rod would have been fired had he beaten OSU last season? I don't. That game means THAT much.

There are no rivalries in pro sports anymore. Guys change teams all the time with money motivating everything. Back in the day before crazy free agency sure, but not anymore. Auburn Alabama football and Duke UNC basketball are the biggest rivalries right now.

Funny how South Dakota picked UNC - DUKE....

Not really....Yankees-Red Sox, Cubs-Cardinals, Dodgers-Giants, Bears-Packers, Giants-Eagles, Steerlers-Browns, Celtic-Knicks.....

These teams have and always will be rivals by virtue of history and geography.

Ohio state/Michigan gets intense. Not trying to belittle the iron bowl, but the mich/Ohio state matchup goes way beyond the game. That was literally a civil war back in the day and the two states hated each other ever since

Yup. There's absolutely plenty of hatred between the teams.

Yes obviously Michigan has been down the past few years but how it is not a big rivalry. You clearly do not much outside of the other SEC schools. The game itself isn't as important to the landscape of CFB right now, but it always was and will be hopefully again.

You think anyone cared about the Iron Bowl when either bama or auburn were down? It's the same shite for every rivalry.

I honestly can't say what rivalry is bigger but they are both great rivalries in CFB, no need to get worked up over an ESPN poll.

Some of the earlier posters who just ripped into The Game like it was the game for the Little Brown Jug ( a rivalry people truly don't give a shite about)

You clearly are just as misguided as the people in this thread that are trying to belittle the UM OSU rivalry.

The fact Sox/Yanks is #1 is a joke for two reasons:

1) They play 18 times a year. "Oh darn, we lost. Oh well, we'll see them again in 21 hours."

2) It's a pro sport. That automatically makes it worse than the best college rivalries.
