Pfft, they're getting plenty of money from the Middle East to not have to worry about TV money.

It’s weird to me that the Rose Bowl garners so much fealty for being “the granddaddy of them all” having started in 1916 and catering almost exclusively to Pac12 and Big10 teams when the Orange, Sugar, and Sun Bowls all started playing in 1935.

To be fair, it's the culmination of the Tournament of Roses which goes back further than the Rose Bowl football game.

I'm pretty sure that 10 o'clock start time for New Year's Day was reserved for the Cotton Bowl.

THIS! Unfortunately, the NFL playoffs won't allow it.

It’s pretty hamfisted. Like, I don’t give a shite about Wisconsin or Oregon this year. Why was this such a production?

Meanwhile, the Sugar Bowl got the same level of intro as the Bahamas Bowl, Alamo Bowl, etc with a trophy presentation bisected with SVP’s late night show at 1am.

You mean spending New Years morning and afternoon outside in Southern California for midwesterners is more appealing than a third trip for Georgia fans to New Orleans in 18 months to watch a game at 7:45 pm on a Wednesday night?

The Sugar did just fine last year with Georgia and Texas fans. Attendance sucked this year because the bowl tie ins killed the novelty

Your program is not above the sugar bowl and apparently fairly close to Baylor judging by the final. You are lucky to get recurring bids because of playing in the East. Why should they make any special arrangements for an overly entitled fan base who fails with any mild bit of hype behind them and has no true stature in college football?

The two best teams in the BIG 12 played horrifically weak out-of-conference schedules, and they should have been penalized for it. If your conference can only produce two Top 25 teams, then those teams better at least test themselves out of conference or else they should be disqualified from the Playoff.

Agreed.
It is a big reason why the 9 conference game argument sucks so much. 8 conference games and better OOC is best for college football.

I'm probably alone on this on this board, but I love the Rose Bowl and respect them for putting their foot down and not letting the NCAA and ESPN tell them how to run their bowl game.

This. While I’d enjoy visiting other west division campuses more, I’m really looking forward to the OOC slate UGA has set up for the next decade

I love watching it. But it is ridiculous that in 2020, the Rose Bowl will never allow a team outside the Big Ten and PAC12 to participate unless it is forced to when it rotates onto the playoff schedule. And then they bitch about it then too.

Shove the game down our throats and tell us how in awe we should be, but then lock out everyone that’s not in the club. Sorry we beat your arse in the early years and you decided to ban SEC teams from the game after 1946.

Aggy is beating the drum loudest to ditch CBS for ESPN. If they're so rich and don't need the money, then why would they do this? I'd tell them to sit down and shut up.

Because at least their fans actually care. What is espn supposed to do? Hype up a sugar bowl that by your own words Georgia fans are apparently too good to show up in? You “weren’t excited by the destination or opponent” but are so entitled that you expect espn to hype the rest of the nation to it

I don’t care how they run the game and I don’t really care if they demand to play on New Year’s Day. But ESPN doesn’t need to devote 2 hours of pre and postgame coverage to an otherwise trivial matchup at the expense of other games.

We decided to keep the Big 12 and Texas schools together while a certain someone bailed for what they perceived as more money.

Is this why LSU fans didn’t show for the Fiesta? Entitlement?

That's fair, but I also think the Wisconsin-Oregon match up was more intriguing than the UGA-Baylor game. Judging by attendance, I think most fans felt the same way.

ESPN definitely went overboard with it though.

Agreed, which is why I cannot fathom going to more than 4 teams; even then, there's only been two or three semifinal games that have been competitive...

I never said we were too good for the Sugar Bowl, you and other LSU posters made that claim and I refuted it. Nor did I ever say anything about Baylor not being an exciting opponent.

My gripes about repeat destination aside, the Sugar Bowl shouldn’t be kicking off at 9pm EST just to accommodate overexposure of the Rose Bowl. And I feel that way regardless of UGA’s participation in either of those games

I agree. I also agree that the massive over the top ESPN stuff is kind of a joke, but the Rose Bowl should look out for the Rose Bowl.
