Good find, Duck

“But across the board, this is the most successful two-year stretch for Razorback athletics in school history. Arkansas won 18 SEC championships in that span (Alabama and Florida are tied for second with seven each). The Hogs finished seventh in the Directors' Cup, awarded to the most successful athletic programs in college sports, last year. It was their highest finish ever and second among all SEC teams after they finished eighth the year before, the school's first top-10 finish ever.”

Good read. Pittman will get the job done there at Arkansas in bringing the glory days back to Fayetteville.

Basically its getting the various coaches to buy into the school as a whole. Which isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. You have to have the right coaches who want to be a part of something bigger while still having success in their own field.

Just curious, who gives the most money to the school, athletics or education, Jerry Jones or the Waltons? I know Pittman has praised Jones a lot.

Jones

Waltons only donate to academic. Bud was the only exception so far I believe.

From the outside lookin in, many think that Jerry Jones and the Waltons bankroll most of Arkansas athletic facilities. While it's true that both contributed significantly to the program, there are several other "big time" donors.

Jack Stephens of Stephens Inc. of little Rock, The Hunt Family (JB Hunt Trucking), Pat & Willard Walker Foundation (Baum-Walker Stadium and several other facilities), Bogle Park (Bob and Marilyn Bogle and the Bogle family), David Washburn (one of the entrances at Bud Walton Arena is named in his honor), and others.

Yes, the Waltons have contributed a lot of money to Arkansas Athletics, but some of the other large contributors' money comes indirectly from Wal-Mart. Bob Bogle was Sam's first store manager at the Walton Five and Dime. He also coined the name Wal-Mart (LINK /). Willard Walker was hired by Sam in 1959 to run the Walton's Five & Dime in Fayetteville.

I'm not certain that David Washburn worked for Wal-Mart, but his brother, Colon, did. He rose to the level of Executive VP at Wal-Mart. So, David probably made a fortune on Wal-Mart stock.

Most, if not all the initial Wal-Mart Associates and/or stock-holders have pass. But, their money lives on mostly in NWA and are Razorback Fans.

well thanks for the clearing up on most of that. I mean I knew quite a bit of it, but some names I was not 100% sure what their affiliation was.

The Hunt family gives a lot of money to NIL.

The Waltons are just academics.

Bud was a big fan of Nolan Richardson and the basketball team. He signed a check to cover the costs for the new arena.

I love Arkansas, it is just too far from the coast.

Georgia fans still love the Pitt Boss. Good to hear he is building a solid foundation for the football team and supporting the entire athletic program. Hope he is contending for the West title very soon.
