I don't know where in the hell you are getting the idea that Oregon played that game with one scholarship player on defense. The OP is wrong on how many players OU had out on defense but what you are saying is just completely wrong.
All eleven of Oregon's starters on defense in this game were scholarship players. Three stars or better. They had two five stars out there actually.
OU only four starters opt out on defense. Three starting linemen and one starting LB.
