Not a very good OOC so far and it is showing big time in the NCAA Net rankings (the selection committees way of selecting teams for the tournament). We better get shite together, or only 3 teams get in and not seeded very high.

Kentucky has not looked good either.
This could be an interesting year in the Southeastern Conference

It's a little early for this garbage. Get back to us on January 1.

The conference is very meh. Better hope Tenner beats Zaga. Kentucky takes down Kansas and UNC to bolster the conference. Not looking good.

I don’t think you understand this new net rankings. They factor everything in the year. If the conference does not have solid wins, it won’t help for upcoming conference match ups. Teams can not lose at home, they will get penalized big...things need to pick up...have to have a strong showing in the SEC vs Big 12 match ups.

Is that the sport we play while we are waiting on baseball season?
Girls play it too, right?

VOLS really got fricked over by these long term deals we signed years ago in the non con.
Georgia Tech, Louisville, Kansas, Gonzaga, Memphis, Wake Forest, West Virginia is a good non con schedule most years but this year it is 2 quality opponents and wait and see on Louisville and WV. Really going to hurt us most likely.

margin of victory. It also relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.
This is how the rankings are being based. You can forget ever looking at the RPI...it’s dead.

It's way too early to look at this. Like RPI in previous years it is close to meaningless until the new year. Any metric that doesn't have last season's results mixed in for the first few months for smoothing purposes should be ignored.

florida-lsu-miss st all have some bad losses where they should/could have won against another major conference.
aub-tenn-uk all whiffed on opportunities for a headline win.
the big12 challenge will be very important. Too bad auburn is not playing

True, but it's a good thing Mizzou isn't playing...so far 0-2 with two beatdowns from the Big 12 for Mizzou.

You're welcome in advance for the easy conference win(s)

If Auburn loses to either Dayton or NC State, then their seeding tanks for a solid NCAA seed in March.
SEC teams can not have loses vs OOC at home, or it will take a big hit in these rankings.

I always hope this, just seems to never happen

It's way too early to take these rankings seriously. Does anyone really believe that Georgia Southern is better than Tennessee?

Auburn plays @ NCst this season but it will still be a big one for seeding.
I think we end up with 5 in the tourney in the end.

I was just about to start a basketball thread when I saw yours... so I'll post this here:
So far this is how the SEC looks:
1-9 record against the KenPom Top 25
2-17 record against the KenPom Top 50
12-23 record against the KenPom Top 100
At this pace, the SEC may only get 4 teams into the NCAA Tournament. It appears the league is going to take a major step backward after making some very big strides the last couple of years.
Here is how each school looks thus far against the KenPom To 100 (ranked in order of most wins)
3-1 Auburn
2-1 Tennessee
1-0 Vanderbilt
1-1 Arkansas
1-1 Mississippi St
1-1 Alabama
1-2 Ole Miss
1-2 LSU
1-2 Missouri
0-1 Kentucky
0-1 S. Carolina
0-3 Florida
0-3 Georgia
0-4 Texas A&M
Additionally though, there have been two bad losses:
*Vandy lost to #161 Kent State
*South Carolina lost to #179 Stony Brook
It's early, but Auburn and Tennessee are the only teams who are making a strong case for an NCAA Bid.... I assume Kentucky will too once they start playing some stiffer competition. Mississippi State and LSU have the talent, but they are going to need to win more big games or they have the NIT in their future.

The Arkansas loss against Texas (a game we should have won) has been offset to a degree by our win over Indiana but this looks like the sort of Arkansas team that could finish 5th in the conference and land the dreaded play UNC in North Carolina in the second round sort of squad.
Or we could miss the tourney and go to the NIT.
This looks like a down year for the SEC and after a couple of up years we might be due for that.

You are correct in that it won't make a ton of sense until the New Year (evidenced by Ohio State being ranked #1 in the initial NET rankings). But what the OP is trying to say is that by the time the new year rolls around, the cake is already in the oven when it comes to how many teams the SEC may get in.
You can't be 2-17 against the KenPom Top 50 and expect to get 6 or 7 teams into the Big Dance. How many SEC teams get into the NCAA Tournament will essentially be decided by the end of December.
The way things are looking, we will get a minimum of three teams with an absolute MAX of five teams unless our conference steps it up in the next 3-4 weeks.
For reference, last season the SEC got 8 teams into the NCAA Tournament with 2 others making the NIT. That was possible because the SEC had such a strong showing in OOC play.
